There are main five colours of Rogan painting orange, blue, green, white and yellow. Traditionally these colours are used in Rogan painting. The most famous design is Tree of Life/ wish tree.

Rogan Art is amazing art to see for people but there is years of hard work and patience behind it. On every stage of Rogan painting, the artisan must be careful because the art process doesn't give you chance for correction. So the artisan of Rogan Art has the qualities of skill and patience.

Stages of process of Rogan painting:
• makes the Rogan paste by boiling oil for many hours.
• The Rogan paste must keep in air tight container to avoid oxidation.
• Then the process of making the coloured Rogan paste.
• The fabric and the preparation as per design
• makes design on half folded fabric, then gets its imprint on other side.
• put for dry under sunlight.
• decorate with dots and small lines
• put again for dry

These all processes of making Rogan painting is time consuming, so limited products are available. The heritage of 1500 years is not easily carried out. Dr. Ashish Kansara carries the legacy of his paternal family's Rogan art. His legacy of making the god and goddess Rogan painting is worth seeing. His famous Rogan painting Ram Darbar is amazing to see.

Rogan Art - the heritage art of painting

Rogan Art is the traditional and heritage art of painting that has the ancient history. Buddha of Bamiyan is the oldest painting in drying oil technique/Rogan Art. The Hindu Kush valley caves of Bamiyan are very famous for their ancient painting heritage. The same technique and colours are used even today after many centuries. The rare technique of painting makes the art unique. The art is secured with a GI tag.

Ashish Kansara, a Rogan Artist from Madhapar Bhuj Kutch is honoured with Doctor of Literature (honour) degree by Anandiben Patel the governor of Uttar Pradesh and Chancellor of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Technical university, Lucknow on 7th July. He is honoured in the 24th convocation programme in AKTU university. The stream of congratulations flows from his family, relatives, friends, scholars, students and the art lovers for Ashish's honour.His family feels proud of him. He is the first artist of Kutch and Rogan Art who gets a Doctorate degree in Literature. This is the proud moment for Kutch and handicraft artists.

Rogan painting procedures are time consuming. After making the outline of Kalpvriksha in Rogan painting, the filling work starts. Small lines in the gaps according to the design of the painting. Rogan art belongs to the 5th century's painting of Budhdha of Bamiyan. The oldest trace of Rogan painting was founded from the Hindu Kush valley of Bamiyan. Nowadays in Kutch a very few artisans are keeping this art alive. Rogan art's inspiring couple Dr. Ashish Kansara and Komal Kansara keep their paternal heritage art in Madhapar Kutch. Foreign visitors, students from various universities, researchers, art lovers visit their little museum of Rogan painting.
