Autumn is creeping across the northern hemisphere, promising a WINTER that the media and politicians define as severe and crisis-like.
GLOBAL STONE WORKSHOP (GSW) offers a fantastic ALTERNATIVE in MAMALLAPURAM, the subtropical sculpture hub of India.
LOCATION...
A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE, this small fishing village (800 fishermen + 2000 stonemasons), is located on the shores of the Bay of Bengal, South India.
It is located in the state of Tamil Nadu which has a culture that stretches back thousands of years before ours.
Their ancient tradition includes the Tamil language (the world's oldest written language), music, dance, art, architecture, philosophy, poetry, religion and much more.
Sculpting in such an atmosphere brings inspiration and extra creative energy.
GSW & ITS INDIAN PARTNERS...
GSW has been operating in Mamallapuram for over fifteen years and, together with National Award Art Master T. Baskaran of Creative Sculptors, has built up a stone carving workshop that meets most technical requirements.
GSW also collaborates with National Award Art Master Rajagopal Ravindran, who is the state's foremost bronze artist, and with Art Master Kumaraswamy Ramesh, who runs a large carpentry workshop specializing in wooden sculptures and temple furniture.
In total, more than 150 skilled craftsmen are at the disposal of Global Stone Workshop, all within the same geographical area.
HEALTH...
We have also formed a team of experienced yoga and meditation instructors, Ayurvedic doctors and masseurs.
WORKSHOPS...
The working season, the winter season of southern India, lasts from early December to late March, with air temperatures between 19°C and 29°C, seawater at a steady 26°C and sunshine every day.
In its fifteen years of operation in India, GSW has had over 250 participants from many countries... many of whom have returned time and time again.
FEES...
Two workshop fees.
- ONE is €195/for a 6-day week which includes workbench, tools, a small block of the local soft granite, lunch at the stone workshop, and a double room at our hotel.
- The alternative is €235/for a 6-day week including a larger double room with a balcony facing the beach, AC + the rest as above.
- For participants who intend to sculpt with us for at least one month, we offer a stay in a double room with kitchenette in a B&B, for €385/month.
The bronze casting workshop is included.
This is the best and cheapest workshop of our Sculpture Galaxy...!
