Lucknow Bioscope

Lucknow Bioscope A City Museum of Culture Lucknow Bioscope is a first of its kind initiative to explore, preserve and celebrate Lucknow’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.

It aims to tell a story of Lucknow grounded in both the extraordinary and everyday, the past and its reflection in the present, highlighting its people, communities, lifestyles, art, architecture, music, literature, and cuisine. To be started as a dynamic online museum presenting themes on Lucknow life and culture, Lucknow Bioscope is envisaged to later develop an interactive physical space to fea

ture exhibits, performances, lectures, guided tours and home-cooked food. Both initiatives will offer visitors an immersive experience of Lakhnaviyat – the tangible and intangible qualities that make up the spirit of the city.

Ari Zardozi remains one of Lucknow’s finest expressions of skill, patience, and craftsmanship. Unlike many embroidery traditions that are generally flat, Zardozi is characterised by its layered, three-dimensional designs.

In Lucknow, the craft is particularly known for its neatness and sophistication. The art that once graced the attire and homes of the city’s social elite continues to shape the city’s identity and reputation as a centre of exquisite craftsmanship.

Lutf-e-Lucknow brought together some of the city’s dimensions that many remember fondly but encounter less often; elements that are somewhere receding from its collective memory.

The songs and anecdotes of Begum Akhtar, the slow-cooked Awadhi food, and the itminaan, the evening offered an opportunity to reconnect with aspects of Lucknow’s heritage that continue to define its unique cultural character.

Societies for years have shaped specific expectations around womanhood, often prescribing how women should think, behave, and express themselves.

Gurleen Kaur is an artist, dance educator, choreographer, founder of AAD Studio Lucknow, and a certified Dance & Creative Movement Therapy Facilitator. Moving beyond fixed definitions she subtly illustrates how individuals have to define their own identities and paths.

Visit our sixth exhibition, Feminists of Awadh par Salaam, to explore more stories of women like her.

Open every day from 1 PM to 10 PM.

Lutf-e-Lucknow celebrated a facet of the city that often escapes contemporary attention - the art of leisure, conversation, music, and shared cultural experience.

Akhtari se Begum Akhtar, the storytelling performance by Askari Naqvi and Zeeshan Abbas, transported the audience to the era of intimate baithak-style mehfils and the classical musical ethos of Lucknow. The session brought together beloved renditions of Begum Akhtar’s music with anecdotes and glimpse into her life.
