Dilawar Khan
36 x 72 Inches
Acrylic on Canvas
2023

Dilawar Khan is inspired by the form of visual appearance which retains the basic expression of visual reality. He attempts to relate & interpret meanings that lie underneath the expressions or feelings of moments. In his painting “Hidden Depths’, he plays with a texture that gives the work a very high expressive quality.

Also, Dilawar Khan is a visionary artist, who intertwines the world of patterns and faces, masterfully uniting them using a symphony of colors to create extraordinary works of art. He aims to convey the profound depth of human experiences and a kaleidoscope of feelings.

He is known for his charcoals on paper or canvas. His works bring out the drama of black and white by introducing solid blocks of paint, which are restricted to reds, yellows, and orange. The contrast sets the mood of the work, highlighting the characters that he paints. The varied nuances of male and female relationships are manifested in his paintings through the medium of charcoals and colors on paper and canvas. Mukesh Salvi (b. 1984)

Acrylic on Canvas

Mukesh Salvi’s choice of palette is something worth looking out for. In most of his works, bold strokes of vivid colors are evident. Patterns in a hazy background with humans resembling puppets make an appearance in his works. His artworks bring forth deep feelings, which are depicted using surreal figures in various postures.

Salvi loves to work with lines, shapes, and figures. He grew up in a beautiful city, Udaipur. His paintings depict the rural people he grew up amongst. His canvasses are dramatic with a vibrant background. He mostly uses bold colours with pastel shades giving artworks a textured feel.

by
Thota Vaikuntam (b. 1942)

Thota Vaikuntam is known for his contemporary figurative paintings of residents of the Telangana region of India. Men and women of his village are often the central characters of his work. Telangana women, in particular, are frequent subjects for his works. The obsession can be traced back to his childhood when he used to be fascinated by the male artists who used to impersonate female characters in the traveling theatre groups that performed in his village. He admits finding the women of his village very sensuous and that he only attempts to capture their vibrancy.

Asit’s narratives revolve around the human psyche and the interpersonal relationships of people within society. There is a certain sensitivity in his works, accentuated by his technique and choice of colors and textures. He captures complex emotions through his semi-clad male and female figures, depicted in varied, open-ended postures. The deceptive simplicity of his lines adds to the sensuality of the robust figures. There is a sense of mystery as well as visual harmony in his paintings.

Etching
by
Niranjan Pradhan (1940)

His forms evolve from the inner core of life, and from the environment around him. In that sense, he is a reality-conscious artist. Consciousness was the general feature of artists of the 1960s. But Pradhan's forms do not end up expressing the essential features of apparent reality; they rather strive to unfold its inner essence.

Ganesh Haloi (b.1936)

Ganesh Haloi is a Kolkata-based artist, born in Jamalpur, Mymensingh (now in Bangladesh). He moved to Calcutta in 1950 following the Partition of India. The trauma of displacement left its mark on his work as it did on some other painters of his generation. Since then his art has exhibited an innate lyricism and a sense of nostalgia for a lost world. He graduated from the Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta in 1956. In the following year, he was appointed by the Archaeological Survey of India to make replicas of Ajanta murals.

Haloi’s abstraction, filtered to their present pure dimensions, contains within them hidden civilizations and imagined landscapes of what was lost in transition. Haloi spent weeks gathering shells by the shore, recording the sound of the sea as it ebbed and flowed. He carried with him the rhythm of the ocean until it had become a part of him and his art.

Bimal Kundu

Bimal Kundu was born in Kolkata in 1954. He graduated from Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata in painting and sculpture and stood first class in sculpture in 1981. His artworks are simplistic on the surface but precisely each one tells its own story. It is inspired and influenced by semi-realistic cubism. What marks his work is a perfect blend of cubistic elements & Indian motifs executed with a fine & smooth surface that engages in a visual conversation with the viewer.
