Sarjana 2026 - Installation
I) Listening to Sacred Breath by Korean Artist SEO GUIL HEON
Listening to Sacred Breath is a site-specific installation created during the Sarjana 2026 this is an extension of the ongoing Sacred Breath series that the artist has developed and performed over many years.
The work consists of biomorphic floating forms made from slender plant stems, biodegradable paper, and locally sourced grains such as yellow dal (lentils), bajra and jowar. Bound with natural materials like gum arabic or starch paste, these fragile eco-sculptures are gently placed on the surface of water, where they drift with the rhythms of wind and current.
Rooted in the dry landscape of Rajasthan, the grains encounter water to create delicate forms that exist between stability and dissolution. Over time, the biodegradable structures gradually disappearβdissolving in water or becoming nourishment for fish and birdsβreturning to natural cycles.
Rather than seeking permanence, the work proposes participation, inviting viewers to reflect on the shared rhythms between human presence, landscape, and the quiet breath of the environment.
I) For the Little Friends β Squirrels by Korean Artist SEO GUIL HEON
Biodegradable sculptures made from local lentils and soil, placed on the lawn of the Poornima University. On the quiet lawn of the University, small squirrels move lightly through the grass and disappear among the low bushes.
Watching their gentle presence, one begins to imagine a world filled with the same quiet peace.
Using lentils grown in this region and soil gathered from this land, small biodegradable forms are created and placed softly on the lawn. Rather than standing apart from the landscape, these sculptures quietly rest within it.
Over time, they will slowly return to the earthβthrough wind, rain, and perhaps through the curious touch of the small creatures who share this garden.
This work is offered as a small gesture for the little friends of this place.
