The princely state of Kunihar Included around 17 villages and was one of the 18 shimla hill states.the former princely state was situated about 15 miles west of shimla the region was bounded by Baghal in the west and the north ; By Patiala in the east and the south. The state also shared a short border with Mahlog in the south west.Kunihar State was incorporated as a part of the Punjab State Agency. After the country Gained Independence in the year 1947, the state was acceded to the Union of India. Kunihar (princely state) is a valley situated between the mountains in the Solan district, which is also known as "Hatkot" and "Choti Vilayat." It was named "Kunihar" by Sh.Rajiv Gandhi, when he found a small valley, surrounded by a small river (translated as Kuni) in shape of garland (translated as Har) so he named it "Kunihar" during his visit. Location: Kunihar is situated 35 km from Shimla (going on the way to the Jubarhatti Airport) and 40 km from Solan (going via Subathu).
