Sant Kabir Das spent his days weaving cloth, bringing separate pieces of thread together to make something whole. Perhaps his poetry did something similar, bridging ideas we might ordinarily hold apart.

Kabir was a weaver by profession and a poet-saint, promoting love and inner devotion. His verses became an important part of the Bhakti movement, questioning convention and expressing complex ideas in language that was direct and often uncompromising.

𝘚𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘴𝘦 𝘚𝘢𝘵𝘩 brings us back to his words through bhajans performed by Yusra Naqvi, a Mahindra Kabir Festival artist trained under Padma Shri Pt. Madhup Mudgal, with insights and commentary by Dr Purushottam Agrawal, one of the foremost researchers on Kabir.

Experience an evening of Kabir’s bhajans and poetry at Museo Camera on the 30th of October, from 6:00-7:30 pm. Listen and reflect, and his words might echo in ways you might not expect.

Book Club at Museo Camera.

Not only is it a catchy phrase, it's quite the community, too. With over seven hundred members who’ve joined us over the years, our little circle has turned into a close-knit group of friends who find joy in all kinds of stories. Spirited book discussions, insightful author interviews, readings and recitations that made the room go still, and book exchanges where someone found their new favourite: all of it open to anyone who loves a good story.

What warms our hearts the most is who shows up. You’ll find curiosity and excitement in just about anyone who walks in: students and retirees, first-time readers or lifelong bookworms. There’s no “right” way to be a reader here, and no one has to prove that they’ve read enough to belong.

We have too many favourite moments to count, but we’ve compiled some of the most memorable Book Club gatherings at Museo. Have a look, see if you can spot familiar faces, and you might find yourself wishing you’d been there. But don’t worry, that’s easily fixed.

Emotions have a melody of their own, we just need to listen closely enough.

Rooted in the traditions of Hindustani classical music, Thumri is known for its intimate and expressive treatment of emotion. It often breathes life into themes of love, longing, and devotion.

Spend an evening with Dr. Meelu Verma, as this musical presentation meanders through the many shades of Thumri, where emotion is at the heart of every note.

The performance will feature Ustad Badloo Khan on harmonium, Pt. Shanti Bhushan Jha on tabla, and Ustad Ghulam Ali on sarangi.

“𝘏𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘢 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘧 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘺.”

These words are from James Cousins, an Irish poet and playwright. Describing a young Sikh potter he met in Japan, he could hardly have known how true those words would prove. That potter was Sardar Gurcharan Singh, affectionately known as 𝘋𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘺𝘫𝘪, who went on to become the father of studio pottery in India.

He began working with clay with the singular goal of earning a living, but discovered quite early on that it could become a means of serious artistic expression. By introducing it to the masses, he turned this undervalued craft into something people now treasure. Through plates, jugs and teapots, Sardar Gurcharan Singh made sure that colour and beauty belonged to everyone, and that is why he is remembered as the pioneer of Indian studio pottery.

Museo Camera and Kriti Film Club celebrate the life and legacy of Sardar Gurcharan Singh with a screening of “The Lotus and the Swan.” Directed by Nirmal Chander and produced by the Delhi Blue Pottery Trust, join us for this special screening on the hands that moulded a nation’s taste in pottery.

The more closely you look at Company-period paintings, the more they reveal.

Company-period art, also known as 𝘒𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘪 𝘒𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘮, was made by Indian artists working during the East India Company years. Often created for British patrons, these paintings record trades, festivals, landscapes, and portraits with remarkable care. What was painted, and for whom, tells us a great deal about the time.

This Sunday, Ratna Vira and Shauryya Vira, co-authors of 𝘈𝘳𝘵 𝘜𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘚𝘶𝘯, join Shravani Dang for a conversation at Museo Camera about these artists and the stories behind their work, and what these artworks can tell us about a complex chapter of history.

Cyanotype might be one of the earliest photographic processes ever invented, but it truly never gets old. For a process that’s almost two hundred years old, it asks for surprisingly little. Running on nothing more than iron salts, sunlight, and water, cyanotype is magic you can hold in your hands.

Today is World Cyanotype Day, and what better way to celebrate than to truly appreciate the blue? Swipe through to see some of the prints we love most, and a little about the history and science behind the process.
