Kulgam Artist Creates Gandhi Portrait from Polythene Waste Without Paint

Kulgam, Jammu & Kashmir:
Mudasir Rehman Dar, Kashmir-based social artist also known as Artist Mudasir Rehman, has created a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi entirely from discarded polythene waste—without using any paint or artificial colours.
Under his innovative “Waste to Wonder” concept, Mudasir Rehman Dar carefully collects, selects, cuts and arranges pieces of discarded polythene according to their natural colours, shades, textures and patterns. These waste pieces are then assembled to form the portrait, making the discarded material itself the colour palette and artistic medium.
This “No-Paint Art” technique transforms plastic waste into creative expression while highlighting the need for cleanliness, responsible waste management and environmental protection. Through his Art for Social Cause, Dar aims to show that even waste can be transformed into a meaningful work of art.

I paint to give shape to questions, emotions, struggles, and voices that deserve to be seen.
My art moves between abstraction, contemporary expression, and social commentary—where colour becomes language and the canvas becomes a space for reflection, and dialogue.
