One of the rarest works of its kind by M.F. Husain, this extraordinary painting from our founder’s private collection is distinguished by its use of beads, stones and embellishments, a form of material experimentation seldom encountered within his practice.

These three-dimensional elements activate the painted surface, lending the composition a tactile, almost sculptural quality. Alongside Husain’s bold colours and expressive forms, they intensify the work’s mood, movement and visual rhythm.

In this reel, our founder, Shriya Anand, takes us through the colour, texture and symbolism that make this work so significant.

Natvar Bhavsar’s practice explores colour as both material and atmosphere. Born in Gujarat and based in New York, he developed a distinctive language of abstraction shaped by American Color Field painting and memories of rangoli, powdered pigments, textiles and Holi.

Rather than using conventional brushwork, Bhavsar sifts and disperses dry pigment across prepared canvas. Created in 1970, NOVE transforms rust, ochre and amber-like tones into a monumental chromatic field, where colour is experienced not as a fixed image, but as an immersive presence.
