By the grace of Guru Nanak Sahib, PDL began operations in 2003 as a small organization tasked with a gigantic mission. Starting with one agenda, one desktop, and one employee, PDL has come a long way since. The project emerged from the concerns shared by a group of individuals for the fast-disappearing or already-lost heritage of Sikhs and Panjab. In many such cases, valuable material, rare litera

ture, architecture and signs of much celebrated memories were completely destroyed, whether by ageing, accident or human aggression. This vision of preservation was the primary motivation for the project. After much deliberation and brainstorming, the project was established with a focus on archiving the endangered invaluable manuscripts and other literature to conserve and defend the heritage, culture and language of Panjab.

Through this collaboration, PDL will digitize the University's rare books, manuscripts, and archival records, ensuring their long-term preservation and making them accessible to scholars and researchers across the world!

With the Guru's grace and the generous support of well-wishers like you, I am delighted to share that the new Panjab Digital Library website is now live: www.PanjabDigitalLibrary.org

After more than two decades of dedicated effort, we are proud to announce a platform that will bring you access to millions of records on Panjab; records that preserve centuries of Panjab's rich history and heritage.

This launch is not the completion of the project; it is the launch of the framework and a declaration of what is yet to come. This is your library. We want Panjabis across the world to help build it into a single point of access for everything related to Panjab.

Together, we can build an enduring repository of Panjab's past and present, a living record of its culture and people, that will inspire and serve generations to come, unlike anything the world has seen before.

This is Panjab's collective memory, preserved, shared, and belonging to all of us.

Panjab Digital Library sincerely thanks the Language Department, Panjab for inviting our Founder, Davinder Pal Singh, as the Chief Guest at today’s Pustak Baithak.
He spoke about why remembering matters and what we lose when we forget our books, our history, and our stories.
We are also grateful to S. Jaswant Singh Zafar, Director of the Department, who launched over 8,000 books and 450 manuscripts on PDL’s new website.
