JD Centre of Art JD Centre of Art is a Bhubaneswar based art centre, founded by eminent artist Jatin Das.

JD Centre of Art’s vision is to create an Art Centre that preserves and promotes tribal, folk, classical and contemporary art, without its traditional boundaries. This vision has manifested itself in the JD Centre of Art (JDCA) in Bhubaneswar, across the historic 2nd Century BC Khandgiri caves. The mandate of the Centre commits it to promote and showcase Indian arts, and create socio-economic chan

ge through the arts. The Centre is driven by Jatin Das, its Founder and Chairman, a contemporary artist conferred with Padma Bhushan, one of the highest civilian awards in India, who was born in Odisha. The JD Centre of Art is envisioned to become an important cultural hub for not only Odisha, but also for the country. Its aim is to add to the quality of life in the region in a way that is democratic for a cross-section of audiences.

Artist Bio:
Shri Kanduri Charan Patra is a master artisan from Birabarpur village in the Cuttack district of Odisha. He has been associated with the traditional art of weaving for over 35 years. Shri Patra began his journey at the Utkal Silpa Kala Samiti to support his family, eventually establishing himself as an experienced and expert weaver. He developed specialised skills in producing a wide range of Silk Khadi products, combining traditional techniques with evolving design patterns.
Currently, Shri Patra is actively engaged in weaving finely designed products such as silk scarves and sarees. Using a frame loom, he and his family members work together to produce fine varieties of silk, cotton, and polyvastra fabrics, contributing to their economic stability and the preservation of traditional handloom practices.
In recognition of his exceptional craftsmanship, Shri Patra was honoured with the National Award in 2010 for his excellence in the field of Khadi and Village Industries. This prestigious award highlights his significant contribution to India’s handloom heritage and acknowledges his lifelong commitment as a master weaver.

Artist Bio:
Debendra Kumar Pattanayak (born 1958) is interested in photographing culture, heritage, landscapes and wildlife. Interested in photography since childhood, Pattanayak started photography when he was thirteen years old with an Agfa box camera and Agfa Click III.
Pattanayak studied BA in history from Ravenshaw College, Cuttack and completed his Masters in Ancient Indian History from JNU, New Delhi. He served as a probationary officer at SBI for 23 years. Since 2007, he has devoted his time to reading and photography.
Pattanayak currently uses Nikon mirrorless Z9 and Z7 cameras and around 40 lenses for photography. He also owns a personal library of over 4,000 books. For the past nine years, he has been part of a three-member group that has extensively explored and photographed temples and monuments in Odisha, as well as regions of Andhra Pradesh bordering Odisha that share Odia cultural heritage, with a particular interest in murals.

Artist Bio:
Jagannath Panda (born 1970) is an Indian painter and sculptor whose practice engages with myth, memory, and the lived realities of contemporary urban India. He grew up in Bhubaneswar, in an environment shaped by ritual, storytelling, and local craft traditions.

Panda studied painting at the B. K. College of Art & Crafts, Bhubaneswar, followed by a Master’s degree in Sculpture from the M. S. University of Baroda in 1994. He later went as a visiting research fellow to the Fukuoka University of Education, Japan, and to the Royal College of Art, London, where he earned a further MA in Sculpture in 2002. He has received several awards, including those from the Lalit Kala Academy, the South Cultural Centre, and the Alice B***r Memorial Foundation.

Working across drawing, painting, and sculpture, Panda often incorporates textiles and detailed line work, drawing from palm-leaf manuscripts and Hindu epics. Based in Gurgaon since 2005, his work reflects urban growth, migration, and ecological tension. In 2011, he founded the Utsha Foundation for Contemporary Art, which supports young artists and encourages dialogue between contemporary practice and diverse cultural traditions.

A short course by Khoj International Artists’ Association led by Pooja Sood and Ruchira Das from 20 to 22 February 2026 (10:30 am to 5:30 pm) at JD Centre of Art (JDCA), Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

The 𝟑-𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 will cover the key aspects of arts management: strategic planning, marketing, financial planning, and human resources. The teaching format will include presentations, engaging discussions, and practical exercises to be done individually and in groups.

This course is in collaboration with the JD Centre of Art (JDCA) and is aimed at arts practitioners living and working in the eastern region of India.

A registration fee of INR 500 will be collected to confirm participation. This fee will be refunded after the completion of the course.

Speaker Bio:
Prabir Kumar Pattanaik (b. 1949 at Udayapur, Nayagarh, Odisha, India) came from a rural agricultural and freedom fighter’s family in a remote village. As a literary and social worker and development researcher, he engaged in development research and worked for several years as a consultant with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and other global development agencies in the field of rural accessibility. He represented various international forums in that field and worked in many Asian, African, European and North and South American countries. During his assignment with the UN and international agencies, he authored many research reports/ papers, most of which were published. He self-retired in 2010 and built up a rich Indological library.
During his work tenure, he visited several Buddhist places and monuments, which inspired him to know more about Buddhism. He engaged himself in Buddhist studies with a focus on Padmanabha and authored several research papers and articles on Padmasambhava, which are published in books, compendiums, journals and newspapers worldwide.

Artist Bio:
Sudhir Kumar Maharana is a veteran artist with forty-seven years of experience in Pattachitra, palm-leaf engraving, and wooden toy painting. He has earned several recognitions, including the Odisha State Award, the Lalit Kala Akademi Award, the National Award and was recently honoured with Shilp Guru Award. Maharana’s work has been exhibited across India and abroad, with demonstrations in Spain, Mauritius, Egypt and USA. He has also played a significant role in mentoring more than 575 students in Pattachitra painting. He currently serves as a Resource Person for imparting Pattachitra knowledge, at the State Institute for Development of Arts and Crafts (SIDAC), Government of Odisha.

Maharana will discuss Rupa Badya K**a Kala, the sixty-four classical arts described by Sage Vatsayana in the K**asutra, presenting them pictorially in the traditional Pattachitra style. He will also reflect on his artistic journey and practice.
