What does it take to make a photograph?

For Sudhir Ramchandran, it is curiosity, presence and the willingness to keep looking until a moment reveals itself.

In this conversation, he reflects on the journey that shaped his practice, and the idea he calls “earned luck”: being there, again and again, until serendipity meets preparation.

A glimpse into the mind behind ‘Empathy of Light’.

Over five decades, Sudhir Ramchandran has photographed people, places, landscapes and fleeting moments, always finding new ways to see what is in front of him. His practice moves effortlessly between the planned and the unexpected, the grand and the intimate.

With ‘Empathy of Light’, these years of observation come together in his first fine art exhibition, a new chapter in a remarkable photographic journey.

Decades of work, friendships and shared memories came together at the preview of ‘Empathy of Light’.

Friends, family and members of Sudhir Ramchandran’s creative community joined us at Gallery G to celebrate his remarkable journey behind the camera. The evening offered a chance to revisit old stories, shared experiences and the many collaborations that have shaped his work over the years.

For Gallery G, it was a special occasion too, marking our first exhibition dedicated to photography.

Photographs can ask you to look beyond the image itself, to notice the choices, atmosphere, and quiet moments that shaped the frame.

This September, we’re bringing together a body of work shaped by decades of looking, observing, and finding meaning in the world around us.

Art history often remembers the name on the canvas. The stories around it can be just as fascinating.

C. Raja Raja Varma and Mangalabai Thampuratty were artists in their own right, while sharing an artistic world with their brother, Raja Ravi Varma.

A sibling bond that found its own expression through art, through shared ideas, honest critique, and a creative life lived alongside one another. ❤️

After 23 years, there are certain artworks you remember for more than the sale itself.

Our founder, Gitanjali Maini, shares five pieces that have remained particularly memorable, from the excitement of representing an artist for the first time, to restorations, rare discoveries, and landmark sales that became part of Gallery G’s story. ❤️

We’re drawn to photographs that leave a little room for interpretation.

The ones that make you wonder what happened just before the shutter clicked, or what remained outside the frame. Perhaps that space between what is shown and what is felt is where a photograph becomes memorable.

This World Photography Day, we’re celebrating that space, and looking forward to bringing you a new exhibition that explores it in its own way.
