Being Alive placed contemporary art inside a longer conversation on anthropology, agency and ecological life.
The exhibition text moves through Franz Boas, Claude Levi-Strauss, Alfred Gell, Howard Morphy, Tim Ingold and Anna Tsing, building a framework where artworks are read through cultural context, symbolic systems, object agency, indigenous knowledge, making processes and multispecies entanglement.
The exhibition remains useful as a vocabulary for looking: cultural hybridity, ecological concern, object relations, identity politics and the Anthropocene. The artwork becomes part of a larger question about how humans, materials, images and environments produce meaning together.
