In ‘Half Turn’, Hilla Toony Navok explores the relationship between architecture, space, and the domestic environment.

Drawing on the architectural language of postwar modernism in Israel, Navok transforms familiar elements such as shutters, curtains, and windows into sculptural interventions.

Don’t miss this beautiful exhibition, on view in Zurich until October 31!

New perspectives, new connections.

Our summer exhibition ‘Summertime’ at Sommer Contemporary Art brings together works by Jonathan Gold and Adam Rabinowitz, two artists whose practices reveal a distinctive sensitivity to materials and the process of making.

Jonathan Gold explores everyday interactions through painting, creating his own colors from pigments, wax, and glue. Adam Rabinowitz moves between painting, sculpture, and installation, incorporating self-made frames as an integral part of some of his works.

Through their individual approaches to color, material, and form, both artists bring fresh perspectives into the gallery space.

From visual art to words, from words to music.

Music, interpretation and circulation are at the heart of Saâdane Afif’s practice, moving between sculpture, text, sound and performance.

In his recently closed exhibition ´Five Preludes’ at Hamburger Bahnhof Museum, poetic “Lyrics” written in response to the works became the starting point for live performances across Berlin. This dialogue between art and music continues this fall with a live concert at LAVINIA, Rome.

Meanwhile, ´Reading No. 9´ is currently on view at Sommer Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv.

Hilla Toony Navok | HALF TURN

Now open at Sommer Salon, Zurich

Following last night’s opening, we are pleased to present ´Half Turn’, Hilla Toony Navok’s new solo exhibition at Sommer Salon.

Responding specifically to the intimate setting of the Salon, Navok intervenes in its architecture, displacing familiar elements from their expected contexts: curtains are caught behind locked panels, shutters become freestanding structures, and works unfold throughout the space.

The exhibition moves between opening and closing, access and containment, retreat and approach — captured in the half turn of a key, a movement whose direction remains unresolved.

Open today, Friday, 11:00–18:00 & by appointment.

A week in Berlin with Sommer Contemporary Art artists -

Gregor Hildebrandt opened his new solo exhibition ´Park by POCO’ at Wentrup, while his work could also be seen in ´Griechischer Wein’ at KWADRAT Berlin and ´Hallen 07´at Wilhelm Hallen.

At Hamburger Bahnhof, we caught the final days of Saâdane Afif’s ´Five Preludes’, centered around his ongoing ´The Fountain Archives’ project.

Tal R is currently on view at Haverkampf Leistenschneider in ´From the Sleep Side’, a three-person exhibition bringing together several generations of painting.

At the Jewish Museum Berlin, Yael Bartana presented her new film ´The Birds’as part of ´The Opposite of Now’, alongside ´Generationship’ — followed by a visit to her Berlin studio.

And finally, a studio visit with Nadine Schemmann, following her recent site-specific installation at St. Matthäus-Kirche, and looking ahead to some very exciting new projects in the making…

As we enter the Jewish holiday season - a time marked by rituals of reflection, renewal and new beginnings - we are pleased to share Yael Bartana’s new film, « The Birds », recently premiered at the Jewish Museum Berlin and at the Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck as part of the exhibition « To The Stars ».

Throughout her practice, Yael Bartana has explored the power of ritual, ceremony and collective gestures. In « The Birds », she once again turns to Jewish history and tradition to imagine a possible future.

Last days of summer in Paris — and a first look inside Moshe Roas’ studio at the Cité international des arts.

Over the past months, Moshe has been collecting objects and fragments found across the city - from flea markets, streets and gardens - and bringing them back to the studio, where they are taken apart, combined and transformed into new works.

A first look at what has been taking shape in the studio: unexpected encounters between stone, lace, brass, fur, broken mirrors and found objects, alongside new photographic works developed during his time in Paris.

The works will be presented for the first time at Moshe Roas’ Open Studio on September 23.

A glimpse before the doors open.

The body, on view.

Summer is a season of heightened visibility. In Summertime, the body appears exposed and concealed, whole and fragmented, posed and transformed.

Across photography, painting and drawing, works by our gallery artists and guests explore the ways bodies are looked at, represented and constructed.

Focus on Tal R.’s works currently featured in Summertime at Sommer Contemporary Art

Tal R’s work brings together images, references and memories without settling into a single meaning. Flowers, animals, night scenes and everyday objects move freely across his paintings and drawings, where color and instinct often come before interpretation.

He has described this way of gathering images through the Hebrew word « kolbojnik, » literally meaning a plate for leftovers, collecting fragments from different places, high and low, and allowing them to come together on paper or canvas. As he puts it: « I do painting a bit like people make a lunch box (…) I constantly have this hot-pot boiling and I throw all kinds of material into it. »

In Summertime at Sommer Contemporary Art, four works from 2024 reflect this approach, moving between flowers and night hours through drawing, color and repetition. Rather than simply depicting their subjects, the works turn them into recurring elements within a visual language that is distinctly his own.
