המקבץ המקולל: מתוך ולתוך ארכיון הוידאו של המרכז לאמנות עכשווית

שיתוף פעולה בין ארכיון הווידאו של המרכז לאמנות עכשווית תל אביב-יפו לפסטיבל ״טונאל אקליפס״ במזקקה, ירושלים.

בעין אחת הפוזלת אל העבר ובעין השניה אל ההווה, המקבץ מתבונן באמנות שנוצרה מתוך מציאות של שיברון מתמשך. כמו קללה הכרוכה בחיים במקום הזה, העבודות מחפשות ולעיתים מייצרות רגעים של קריסה, סכנה והסלמה בתוך היומיום.

האסופה תוצג בלופ במשך יומיים בחלל האולפן של המזקקה בירושלים, ותכלול עבודות מארכיון המרכז לצד עבודות חדשות שייכנסו אליו.

A collaboration between the Video Archive of the Center for Contemporary Art Tel Aviv–Yafo and the Tonal Eclipse festival at Mazkeka, Jerusalem

With one eye squinting toward the past and the other toward the present, the selection looks at art made within a reality of ongoing rupture. Like a curse bound up with life in this place, the works seek out, and at times produce, moments of collapse, danger, and escalation within the everyday.

התערוכה "מזכרות נשוקות שמש" של האמנים יניב דראי וסאן פרנקו נבנתה מתוך דיאלוג עם ארכיון הספרים והקטלוגים של המרכז, שנמצא בחלל הכניסה. שתי העבודות מתייחסות בדרכים שונות לאופן שבו דימויים וידע נאספים, נשמרים ומאורגנים — בספרים, בארכיון וברשת.

בין מחסן הספרים לחלל התצוגה מציב דראי פסל ארכיטקטוני המשמש גם כמעצור לדלת. המיקום שלו, בדיוק על הגבול שבין מה שנשמר באחסון לבין מה שנחשף לקהל, הופך את המעבר בין הארכיון לתערוכה לחלק מהעבודה.

לצדו, פרנקו מציג על קיר המדפים את הסדרה "גב" כרצף של דימויים מתוך אינדקס רחב שאסף וסרק מהרשת, מספרי תולדות האמנות וספרי אמן. כשהם מנותקים מהקשרם ומוצגים ללא היררכיה, הם יוצרים זרם חזותי שמזכיר את האופן שבו אנחנו פוגשים דימויים על מסך — במהירות, בזה אחר זה.

ההצבה עצמה אינה פונה ישירות אל הצופה, אלא נפרשת בזווית ומניעה את המבט בין הקרוב לרחוק. כך הופך המפגש בין העבודות לארכיון לחלק מקבלת הפנים במבואת המרכז — הזמנה לעצור, להתבונן וגם לפתוח ספר ולעלעל בקטלוגים שנצברו בו לאורך השנים.

The exhibition "Sun-Kissed Souvenirs" by artists Yaniv Drey and Sun Franko was developed through a dialogue with the CCA’s archive of books and catalogs, located in its entrance space. Both works engage in different ways with how images and knowledge are gathered, preserved, and organized—in books, archives, and online.

Between the book storage and the exhibition space, Drey places an architectural sculpture that also serves as a doorstop, making the transition between archive and display integral to the work itself.

By its side, on the shelving unit, Franco presents the series "Back" as a sequence of images drawn from an extensive index he scanned from the internet, art history, and artist books. Stripped of original contexts and hierarchy, they generate a visual stream reminiscent of how we encounter images on a screen—rapidly and in succession.

The layout unfolds at an angle that shifts the viewer's focus between near and far—inviting visitors to pause, observe, and browse through the catalogs accumulated here over the years.

‎לרגל נעילת התערוכה ״ברוש לבדו״, נתכנס מתחת לחזית הקורסת של המרכז לאמנות עכשווית במיצב של נרדין סרוג׳י למופע סאונד מאת ירין אבו חמד, הקראת המסה של וירג’יניה וולף ״מחשבות על שלום בשעת תקיפה אווירית״ ושיחה בין האוצרת הילה כהן שניידרמן וד”ר שרי אהרוני, ראשת התכנית ללימודי מגדר, אוניברסיטת בן גוריון בנגב.

‎ההופעה של ירין אבו חמד, שנוצרה במיוחד עבור החלל, מבוססת על הקלטות שטח מקוריות שאספה האמנית במשך שנים, אותן היא מעבדת ומפרקת עד שהצלילים נכנסים למערבולת קולית המהדהדת באקוסטיקה שמייצר המיצב בחלל התערוכה.

‎بمناسبة اختتام معرض «سروة واحدة»، نجتمع تحت الواجهة المتداعية لمركز الفن المعاصر، ضمن تركيب ناردين سروجي، لأداء صوتي وقراءة نصّية. تستهلّ فنانة الصوت يارين أبو حمد الأمسية بدرون متواصل، وعلى وقعه تقرأ القيّمة هيلا كوهين-شنايدرمان مقالة فيرجينيا وولف «أفكار حول السلام أثناء غارة جوية»، ثم تتحاور مع د. شيري أهروني، رئيسة برنامج دراسات الجندر في جامعة بن غوريون في النقب.

‎الأداء، الذي أُنجز خصيصًا للفضاء، يستند إلى تسجيلات ميدانية أصلية جمعتها الفنانة على امتداد سنوات. تعالج هذه التسجيلات وتفكّكها إلى أن تنخرط الأصوات في دوّامة صوتية تتردّد أصداؤها داخل الخصائص الأكوستيكية التي يخلقها التركيب في فضاء المعرض.

To mark the closing of the exhibition “A Sole Cypress,” we will gather beneath the collapsing facade of the Center for Contemporary Art within Nardin Srouji’s installation, for a sound performance by Yarin Abu Hamad, a reading of Virginia Woolf’s essay “Thoughts on Peace in an Air Raid,” and a conversation with Dr. Sarai Aharoni, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Gender Studies Program at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.

Yarin Abu Hamad’s sound performance, created especially for the space, is based on original field recordings collected by the artist over the years. she processes and deconstructs these recordings until the sounds are drawn into a sonic vortex that reverberates through the acoustics created by the installation in the exhibition space.

הקרנה מוערת | מחשבות על הגריד
יום רביעי, 12 באוגוסט, בשעה 20:00

בתערוכה ״ברוש לבדו״ נרדין סרוג׳י רוקמת דגמי רקמה פלסטיניים על גריד מתכת, ותוך כך מפרקת, מותחת ומרכיבה מחדש את הדגמים המסורתיים. הערב ״מחשבות על הגריד״ ממשיך לבחון את פעולת הפירוק וההרכבה דרך עבודות וידאו-ארט, שבהן הגריד מופיע כמבנה, כשפה וכאופן מחשבה. האמן מוחמד טוח’י יציג את העבודות ויציע מבטים שונים על אופני הפעולה של הגריד.

במהלך הערב יוקרנו עבודות וידאו מאת דורון סולומונס, עפרי כנעני, נרדין סרוג׳י, טינה יעקוב ועוד.

In A Sole Cypress, artist Nardeen Srouji presents Palestinian embroidery on metal grids, dismantling, stretching, and reassembling traditional motifs in the process.

The evening Of the Grid continues this exploration of deconstruction and reconstruction through various video art-works, in which the grid emerges as a structure, a language, and a way of thinking. Artist Muhammad Toukhy will present the works and offer different perspectives on the grid’s modes of operation.

Featuring works by Doron Solomons, Ofri Cnaani, Nardeen Srouji, Tina Jacob, and others.

הערב יעסוק במושג הגריד והאופנים שבו הוא מופיע ביצירות וידאו-ארט. את המקבץ יציג האמן מוחמד טוח’י שידבר על סוגים שונים של גריד, ועל הדפוסים, המקצב, ואופן ראיית העולם שהם מכתיבים או שמשתקף דרכם. על גרידים כמערכות כולאות, אך גם על האצמעים למצוא בהם מסתור, ועל האפשרות לחתור תחתם. במהלך המפגש תתקיים הקרנה מוערת של עבודות וידאו מאת דורון סולומונס, עפרי כנעני, נרדין סרוג’י וטינה יעקוב, שתעמיד אותן בדיאלוג עם רעיונות בתיאוריה ביקורתית ותוך התייחסות לעבודותיהן של היטו שטיירל ומונה חאטום.

Annotated Screening | Of the Grid

The evening will revolve around the notion of the grid as utilized in various video-art works. It will be presented by artist Muhammad Toukhy, who will discuss different types of grids, the patterns, rhythms and perspectives they dictate or reflect. The evening will feature an annotated screening with works by Doron Solomons, Ofri Cnaani, Nardeen Srouji, and Tina Jacob thought through various ideas in critical theory and in reference to the works of Mona Hatoum and Hito Steyerl.

מעבדת שבת לילדים| מדימוי לרקמה סיור וסדנה לילדים בגילאי 6–10

‎מעבדת השבת הקרובה תתקיים בהשראת התערוכה “ברוש לבדו” של האמנית נרדין סרוג’י. נפתח בסיור בתערוכה, במהלכו נבקר במיצב המרשים, תלוי מקום, של האמנית המשחזר את חזית המבנה בתוך חלל התצוגה. בהמשך נפגוש עבודות רקמה על גבי מתכת מחוררת, שנוצרו בהשראת דגמי רקמה פלסטינית מסורתית. לאחר מכן נמשיך לסדנה, שבה נהפוך דימוי שנצייר לדגם רקמה, נתנסה ברקמת צלב על גבי משטח מחורר וניצור עבודה אישית. בסיום יקבלו המשתתפות והמשתתפים ערכה להמשך היצירה בבית.

‎سيُقام مختبر السبت القريب بإلهام من معرض «سروة واحدة» للفنانة نردين سروجي. سنبدأ بجولة في المعرض، نزور خلالها العمل التركيبي اللافت المتلائم مع الحيّز، والذي تعيد فيه الفنانة بناء واجهة المبنى داخل فضاء العرض. بعد ذلك، سنتعرّف إلى أعمال تطريز استثنائية على معدن، استُلهمت من نماذج التطريز الفلسطيني التقليدي. ثم نتابع إلى الورشة، حيث سنحوّل صورة نرسمها إلى نموذج تطريز، ونتدرّب على تطريز الصليب فوق سطح مثقّب، وننجز عملًا شخصيًا. في نهاية الورشة، يحصل المشاركون والمشاركات على عدّة لمواصلة التطريز في البيت. بإرشاد الفنانة عيدن بنت.

This edition of Saturday Lab is inspired by the exhibition by Nardeen Srouji. We will begin with a guided tour of the exhibition, where we will encounter the artist’s impressive  site-specific installation, which recreates the façade of the CCA building within the exhibition space. We will then continue upstairs to view embroidered works on perforated metal, inspired by traditional Palestinian embroidery patterns. We will continue to the workshop were each participants will be able  transform a drawing into an embroidery pattern and  experiment with cross-stitch on perforated surfaces. At the end of the session, each participant will receive a kit to continue working at home. Led by artist Eden Bannet

The Rywkind Ben Zour Grant for Art, Education and Community always brings about surprising connections between emerging and senior artists. We’re happy to share this short video that offers a glimpse into the grant’s work process, leading up to Nardeen Srouji’s exhibition “A Sole Cypress.”
