🚨 SERIES LAUNCH: Episode 1 is live! 🚨
We are officially launching our new podcast series exploring the lives, context, and world of The Apostles!
In Episode 1, we start right where it all began: on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. 🚣♂️🐟
Forget the sanitized, passive images often depicted in traditional art. When you look at the archaeology and historical context of 1st-century Judea and Galilee, a much richer—and grittier—picture emerges:
🔨 The "Frankenstein" Vessel: Excavations near Ginosar uncovered a 1st-century fishing boat built from 11 different types of wood. It wasn't a pristine vessel; it was a heavily used, constantly repaired workhorse.
🌊 Brutal Night Labor: Fishing with multi-layered trammel nets meant working in the dark, hauling hundreds of pounds of freezing, wet rope, and driving fish by hand into the mesh.
💰 Heavy Taxation: Fishing wasn't free. The Roman administration under Herod Antipas heavily taxed fishing zones and processing harbors like Magdala (often 30–40% of the catch).
📜 Real Businesses, Real Sacrifice: The Greek text reveals that Peter, James, and John weren't destitute, solitary figures—they were partners (koinonoi) in established commercial enterprises with hired workers. Understanding their financial and social standing makes their decision to drop their nets and follow Jesus all the more profound.
Join us for the start of this journey through the lives of the Twelve!
