Not every angel has wings.
Sometimes, an angel is simply someone who chooses to stand beside you when others turn away.

Someone who opens a door, raises a voice, reaches out a hand, or risks everything to protect another person.

Throughout history, the Jewish people have encountered people like these - individuals who chose to act with courage, conscience, and faith, standing with the Jewish people when doing so was far from easy.

From the Righteous Among the Nations who saved Jews during the Holocaust to friends of Zion who supported the Zionist vision and the establishment of the State of Israel, each left behind a legacy of friendship, humanity, and hope.

We remember these “guardian angels” of the Jewish people - ordinary people who chose to do extraordinary things.

Not every act of courage begins with an extraordinary action. Sometimes, it begins with a simple decision to open the door to someone who has nowhere else to go.

Today, we mark the birthday of Betsie ten Boom, born on August 19, 1885, in the Netherlands.
During the N**i occupation, Betsie, together with her sister Corrie and their family, opened their home to persecuted Jews and members of the Dutch resistance, helping hide and protect them.

That choice placed the entire family in enormous danger, yet they continued to act out of faith, conscience, and a deep sense of humanity.

In 1944, the family was arrested. Betsie and Corrie were sent to RavensbrĂĽck concentration camp, where Betsie continued to hold on to faith, hope, and compassion for those around her. She died there in December 1944.

Her legacy reminds us that sometimes the quietest choices leave the deepest mark.
Betsie ten Boom and her father, Casper, were recognized as Righteous Among the Nations for their efforts to save Jews during the Holocaust.

Come discover the stories of those who dared to dream, believe, and act for the Zionist vision.

At “The Dreamers” exhibit at the Friends of Zion Museum in Jerusalem, meet the people, ideas, and vision that helped turn a dream into reality.
