Another Heritage Week event ticked off this evening! I was delighted to represent Waterford County Museum committee with my fellow trustees, but sorry to miss the annual mass in the Old Graveyard. The lecture this evening, given by Gillian McCarthy of Rubicon Archaeology was based on recent archaeological surveys and excavations undertaken at Cappagh Quarry as part of their expansion. The findings are fascinating, two neolithic houses which are potentially 6000 years old, i.e., older than Stonehenge & Newgrange, pottery, cremated human remains, animal bones, axe heads and many other artefacts. The Museum have an ongoing exhibition in conjunction with Rubicon in Dungarvan Shopping Centre which is open until Saturday evening, highly recommend you drop in while shopping!
