Next at Uillinn Dance Season: Magdalena Hylak
What can movement communicate beyond words?

On Friday 23 October, international dance artist and choreographer Magdalena Hylak, based in Ireland, brings A DANCE to Uillinn Dance Season.

Through repetition, physical intensity and an interplay of sound and movement, A DANCE invites audiences to experience dance beyond conventional styles and narratives.

Magdalena’s work continues her creative collaboration with composer Lionel Kasparian, whose electroacoustic compositions bring another dimension to the work.

As Leanne herself puts it, “If somebody else is showing what it is to look like a Traveller, I am showing what it is to feel like a Traveller.” McDonagh’s images portray family meetings, celebrations, scenes of labour and trade, domestic interiors and activities, and public gatherings. They emphasise both the distinct characteristics of Traveller culture and universal aspects of social relations.
You can see Leanne McDonagh, Community and Connection in the galleries at Uillinn until 31 October. Open Monday to Saturday 10am to 4:30pm (closed on Sundays).

At the centre of Béaloideas, in the Courtyard Gallery until 19 October, is a large-scale map based on an 1845 map of Sherkin Island, overlaid with GPS coordinates marking 158 landmarks, including pathways, shortcuts, stiles, gates, gaps, wells and other locally significant sites. An interactive version of the map, accessible through the Sherkin Island website, allows visitors to explore these locations and hear the stories associated with them. You can view the interactive version in person as part of Mona's exhibition here at Uillinn.
You can join Mona herself on Tuesday 13 October at 1:00pm for a conversation around the work, free, no booking necessary.
