Lovely to meet Frank Keegan today, Dennis Slattery's Class of 1982, and to show him the as yet unfinished recreation of his office, Frank sure recognised the brass bell and a lot more.

Another lifelong career was enabled by Denis, and another signature on the wall to mark Frank's respect and thanks.

Thanks to the Irish Historic Flight team, Declan, Paul, Helen and Darren, for a really interesting talk about the Irish Historic Flight Foundation and their mission to keep Irish aviation heritage airworthy.

The IHFF have a fleet of 5 historic aircraft, 3 DH Chipmunks, including retired Air Corps 168, a Boeing Stearman, and R208, a retired Irish Air Corps Reims Rocket FR172. The IHFF maintains, restores, and regularly fly these aircraft from their base at Athboy Airfield in County Meath, appearing at local and national air shows, Their next showing at Bray Air Display on August 1st

Reminder about our upcoming SAM special guest talk, this Saturday 20th June with the Irish Historic Flight - Helen Hennessy, Paul McDermott and Declan Curtis.

The team will give a general and lighthearted talk on the organisation, fleet, current projects as well as restoring Chipmunk 168 and its performance at the Irish Air Corps centenary in 2022 and the plans for the next 12 months.

Founded in 2014, the Irish Historic Flight (IHFF) is dedicated to preserving Ireland’s aviation heritage through the operation of historic, airworthy aircraft. IHFF plays an active role in showcasing Ireland’s aviation story at events across the country.

As always tickets are FREE but booking is essential as we have limited capacity.

Some great history showcasing the development of aviation technology in one small space!

Buccaneer XX897, fifth last off the production line and dedicated to trialling the Foxhunter Radar for the Tornado, Jaguar XX826, very likely the only Jaguar to have won first prize at a St Patricks Day Parade!

Joined by the super historic English Electric Lightning, XM144, only the cockpit remains, but she was clocked as THE fastest of all the Lightnings produced.

And last to the party today was our De Havilland Venom DH-112, having a summer spell outside with an opportunity to be admired. We are not sure of its serial number; it was one of 9 Venoms and Vampires operated by Classic Source Jet, which displayed them across Europe after their retirement from the Swiss Air Force.

The last day out for this cockpit was to Birr Air Display in 2023, and today Katie was the first future pilot to take the controls in a while!

Fantastic to meet the 34th Limerick Pallaskenry Cub Scouts today on their Air Activity Adventure Skills Badge workshop and overnight in Shannon Urban Base Camp

They got an extra treat to meet AerLingus First Officer Harry Humphreys who called in to see us and got surrounded, well done and thanks Harry.

Thanks also to Diarmuid LIMERICK CLARE AMATEUR RADIO CLUB for teaching them some Morse code, great fun and learning all round.

While Kaper was about, he got derailed into helping with more moving, filling empty cradles, out went the 737 and MD80 landing gear to reveal the long lost 707 cockpit!

This cockpit was utilised in UL for many years by students, kindly donated to SAM some years ago. We didn't have the space inside, so it got stored. The aircraft was previously impounded in Shannon years ago and subsequently scrapped. We also have one of its landing gears, used by Shannon Aerospace for training, and an RR Conway engine formerly displayed by Sealol Shannon, which we found and saved from a scrap heap.

It's nearing time to incorporate this shed into the building somehow, we will have to leave access for the Swallows and build a droppings catcher under the nest, they have 5 little chicks above this year.
