“I was often sent out for ‘the messages’, carefully written on a slip of paper which usually meant bread, milk, and the like. I would hold the coins tight in my fist and set off importantly. Mr Brennan would wait patiently as I unfolded the paper and read it aloud. He never hurried a child. That kindness mattered. It built confidence in small, steady steps, one visit at a time.” Do you remember being “sent for the messages” as a child. ‘Old Irish Ways’ is an absolute gem! Old Irish History Museum at Caherguillamore, Bruff, Co. Limerick. V35 X236 near Lough Gur is so well worth visiting. Over 200 years of memorabilia. See the old pub, school house, kitchen complete with fireplace bellows, a Forge, shoe repair shop, farm equipment, tractors, old shop, telephone exchange, telephone boxes and so much more.
Highly recommend a visit. Indoors mainly, over 2 floors (there is a chair lift) of nostalgia.
