Founded in 1907, and opened in 1916. Previous locations:
1907-1975: City Library, Pery Square (now Limerick City Gallery of Art)
1975-1979: Closed to the Public
1979-1998: St John's Square
1999-2012: Castle Lane (beside King John's Castle)
2012-2017: Istabraq Hall, City Hall
2017-Today: Old Franciscan Friary

ANAM is an upcoming exhibition by Clare artist Eileen Collins, curated by Maurice Quillinan, and officially opens this Thursday, the 3rd of September, here at Limerick Museum at 5:30pm and runs until the 30th of September. All are welcome.

In this exhibition, drawing from the 22,000 photographs in the Limerick Museum archives, Collins transforms documentary records into contemporary, emotive paintings that celebrate the lasting humanity within them, offering these historical images a brief return. Working primarily in oils, her practice encompasses figurative and landscape painting, characterised by rich layers of paint, a distinctive use of the palette knife and an intuitive approach to colour.

Today in 1940.. Limerick won their 6th (of 13!) "All Ireland Hurling Title", with a win of 3-7 to 1-7 against Kilkenny at Croke Park. It was Limerick's 1st All-Ireland Victory since 1936, and their 5th final in 8 years.

We were delighted to welcome so many visitors to Limerick Museum for the opening of our latest Heritage Council funded exhibition 'Specimens of Change'. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a special occasion.

We hope to welcome many more of you over the coming weeks. With Free Admission, the exhibition is a great outing for families, friends, and anyone interested in discovering something new about natural history - from botany to paleontology!
