The visitor to Newmills can experience the pleasure of seeing one of the largest waterwheels in Ireland in action as it drives the machinery of the corn mill.

The oldest surviving building here is said to be 400 years old. Indeed, the whole complex is an interesting reminder of a stage in the industrial development of this country which has now given way to a more sophisticated, but usually far less fascinating technology. Location: 5km outside Letterkenny off Churchill Road. Guided Tours: Available on request; Max. No: 15-20; Duration: 45 minutes

Battle of Scarrifholis

Join Tony tomorrow Wednesday and let him take you on a journey through the local area's rich history and the pivotal role Newmills played in the Battle of Scarrifholis of 1650.

Thursday 20th - 2pm

Archaeology of Newmills
Join Aimee and step back in time at Newmills Corn and Flax Mills for an archaeological tour, where you will learn the deep and layered histories of settlement, industry and community by the River Swilly

Friday 21st - 2pm - People of Newmills

Join Emma and hear stories of everyday life and the significant people that had a fundamental relationships and roles within these historic mills

Saturday 22nd - 2pm.
Restoration and conservation of Newmills Corn & Flax Mills.

Join Mark and explore how the OPW carefully restored and conserved the Newmills Corn and Flax Mills, and the challenges of preserving one of Ireland's most important surviving industrial sited.

All talks are free and no booking is required.

We were delighted to welcome TV presenter, Joe Mahon and crew from the UTV programme Mahon's Way to New Mills Corn & Flax Mills on Monday.

They spent the day filming a segment for a very special programme, telling the fascinating story of Newmills Corn and Flax Mills.
