The Heritage Centre houses an exhibition about 1916 Proclamation signatory Sean McDermott or Seán MacDiarmada as he was later known. The exhibition contains an audio-visual facility and interpretive panels, providing visitors with information about him, as well as the history of the locality. The Heritage Centre itself is located in the former courthouse building and has been developed with Peace

III funding administered by Leitrim County Council. The main aims of the centre are to welcome visitors to Kiltyclogher, and provide information about the history of the village with a particular focus on the Seán MacDiarmada legacy. The family cottage where MacDiarmada was born and raised is in Corranmore a few kilometres outside the village. This is maintained in its original condition as a National Monument by the OPW and may be visited by prior arrangement.

A Perfect Day
What fabulous weather and it was great to be joined by (L-R) Ruairí Bray, The Mighty Eamon Keaney Senior Corracloona Kiltyclogher, his Grandaughter Grace Keaney -Bray , Eamons very proud daughter Joan Keaney Bray and myself Ciarán on tour duty today.
Grace is very young but very proud of our Irish heritage and she plays for the county team Hertfordshire Ladies Gaelic football club. She is also a great dancer and was nearly tempted by our famous dancing stone 1 and a half metres infront of the fire. The force is strong with this one and Ive a funny feeling she will be back some day.
There was also Ruairí and Joan who had so much to talk about life and how proud they are of Ireland and Leitrim.
It wouldnt be a proper tour without a few Jokes and Eamon supplied them and a passing rub from Ruairí about the Leinster final as his father is from West Meath , the belly button of Ireland.
Thanks for the weather if any nation deserves it we do.

Thanks for booking agus Tar ar ais arís.

Had a great day at Seán Mac Diarmada's Cottage joined by the Dolans Lynch and Boyles of Fermanagh. Mickey, and daughter Machaela,Jimmy and Garbhan seen top picture. Mickey having a day off from Dart stardom had some great stories about Poteen and Margareths Gallagher 's famous thatched house in Belcoo. .They arrived in the Heritage Centre and met the Lavertys of Maghery Armagh bottom picture who had just finished their tour. This is the Lavertys (Fidelma and Mark) second tour, the last one was in 2016.They very proud of their local Gaa club the Sean Mac Diarmada's, formed by Francie Dolan who they say came from the Corranmore road here in Leitrim. Such a coincidence. I think theres avSeán Mac Diarmada club in all thecounties of the north. We must check that one.We were all very very lucky to meet Anne Hailes our world famous journalist who was the first guest speaker today at the Seán Mac Diarmada Summer School 2026.Lots more to come on that.

Sunday Tours
Brighton Calling

Two fun loving adventurers arrived in Kiltyclogher village with their cameras and good humour at the ready.
Liz and Andy Wakeling have been here many times in Ireland but were delighted to see the home of Irish National hero Seán MacDiarmada and actually walk inside his historic Cottage.
The weather's been cold but it didnt dampen our spirits as walked through these beautiful rooms and they also plan to travel to Drumcliffe to see the grave of William Butler Yeats .
I suggested they drop off for a photo at for a photo opportunity.
Lovely meeting you two and I hope you get a nice cup of tea in the Drumcliffe Tea Rooms.

Just had a wonderful tour with Pat and Anne Mc Caffrey from Cannaboe, Blacklion accompanied by their son Enda and his partner Ani, who are visiting from Toronto, Canada. It was a very special vist for Enda and Ani as they were back in Ireland to attend the first communion of Enda's niece and god-daughter Aideen.

Congratulations Aideen, I've seen the lovely photos of your communion. You looked like a princess on your special day.

After meeting the Mc Caffreys (my cousins) at the Heritage Centre we had a great chat about Sean Mac Diarmada's early life and also his political and revolutionary contribution to the cause of Irish freedom. We then proceeded to the Mac Diarmada Homestead where we were joined by more visitors and all admired the workmanship of the cottage and discussed the simplicity of life in bygone days.

Anne, Pat, Enda and Ani, thank you for your vist. I really enjoyed having you all on tour. Wishing Enda and Ani a safe journey back home to Canada and hopefully we will see you again before too long.
