Proudly funded by the Arts Council and Dublin City Council. Photo Museum Ireland is the leading centre for contemporary photography. With the support of its active membership of over 400 independent photographers, the Museum serves as a resource base and informal meeting point for everyone interested in photography. Members of Photo Museum Ireland receive:

Access to hire of darkrooms, artists digital studio and other facilities
Discount on all Museum courses
Priority booking for events
Invitations to at least 3 private views per year
5% discount in the Museum bookshop

Corporate members receive:

all of the above plus invitations to each private view
acknowledgment of support in the Museum reception area. Membership fees are as follows:

Visitor*: €10.00

How do we photograph, represent and remember the dead?

As Halloween approaches, join photographic historian and librarian Orla Fitzpatrick for for a special talk on Photographing Death at 7pm on Thursday 29 October at Photo Museum Ireland.

Drawing on her research into Irish post-mortem studio photography, Orla explores the history of images of the dead and how photography has shaped the way we understand death, memory and loss. Exploring intimate memorial portraits and images of conflict, this talk considers the ethical questions that arise when we look at photographs of the dead — and how museums can approach these sensitive subjects with care.

Part of the city-wide Dublin by Dusk initiative, this timely evening talk looks beyond the macabre associations of Halloween to reflect on photography’s powerful role in how we confront death, preserve memory and honour the lives of those who are gone.

Join William Fagan, Chairperson of Photo Museum Ireland, at the RDS for 'Reading Photos', a fascinating lunchtime talk on how we look at, interpret and understand historical photographs.

Drawing on the National Library of Ireland’s National Photographic Archive, which holds some 5.5 million images, William considers the relationship between seeing and knowing, and how photographs can reveal more than first meets the eye.

Part of the RDS Lunchtime Library Talk Series, this event offers a fresh perspective on Ireland’s photographic heritage and the stories held within our national collections. Open to RDS members and friends.

📣 Announcing: The 2026–27 TALENTS Residents.

We're pleased to continue our partnership with Sigma, awarding the 2026/27 Sigma Talents Artist Awards to three artists: Taryn Barling, Darragh Hickey, and Adam Tucker.

Delighted to announce our Curator's Choice artist residents are Salem Anowe Chukwuezi and Deborah Crowley.

These 12-month residencies will give five emerging artists access to the critical resources, expertise, and opportunities needed to establish a sustainable creative practice, along with an exhibition opportunity at Photo Museum Ireland in 2027.

We're looking forward to seeing how the work develops over the next year and to celebrating these artists' achievements as their practices evolve.

A brilliant evening celebrating the opening of TALENTS 2026! 📸

One year on from the start of their residencies, it's wonderful to see these emerging photographic artists present their work in our galleries, surrounded by friends, fellow artists and visitors.

It's a real pleasure to work with our residents, supporting their work through the conversations, shared ideas and creative exchange that shapes these projects. Wonderful to see visitors engaging with these personal works, connecting with themes of identity, family, place and community that intersect through the exhibition.

A huge congratulations to all five artists 👏 We're delighted to celebrate your success and share your work with new audiences. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening and made it such a fantastic evening.

As part of the TALENTS 2026 launch, we're hosting the first event of the Przejście / Pasáiste (Passage) project, a new cultural exchange partnership between Photo Museum Ireland and NOMUS National Museum in Gdańsk, Poland.

Join us from 7.15pm on Thursday 22 October to experience an outdoor public screening of work by invited Polish artists and featured artists of TALENTS 2026. This outdoor showcase is guest curated by Dr Wiktoria Michałkiewicz, an independent photography curator and founder of REZO Agency, specialising in cultural strategy and production.

The Przejście / Pasáiste (Passage) centres on public artist talks and screening events across partner institutions Photo Museum Ireland (Dublin) and NOMUS National Museum (Gdańsk). This initiative fosters cutting edge dialogue and cultural exchange through photography. Przejście / Pasáiste (Passage) is supported by REZO Agency and the Department of Culture, Communications, and Sport.

Introduction to Charcoal invites participants into a staged life drawing session created and performed by Marcel Matys, tracing q***r presence, vulnerability and the politics of looking.

Through charcoal, drawing and the live body, the class challenges perceptions of non-conforming bodies and considers performance, visibility, creation and undoing.

Please note: this event includes nudity and mentions of s*x and violence.

This hands-on workshop breaks down when and why each is used, and shows you how to create an effective headshot that works in real-world situations.
