The Molesworth Gallery The Molesworth Gallery is one of Ireland's leading contemporary art galleries.

The Molesworth Gallery is one of Ireland's leading contemporary art galleries, representing some of the most accomplished and exciting artists working in the country today. We host eight solo and two curated group exhibitions annually at our gallery space in Dublin’s city centre. Exhibitions are documented in gallery publications ranging from brochures to hardback books. We also collaborate with arts centres and museums to maximise public access to the work of our artists, as well as promoting them at international art fairs. The gallery covers the ground and first floors of a large Georgian house in Dublin's city centre. A changing display of work by gallery artists may be viewed in our upstairs exhibition space.

FACEMAKER by 𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗞 𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗗 runs at the gallery on October 27th.
In this series of 32 paintings, Redmond replaces individual subjects with ventriloquist dummies and mannequins, occupying an uncanny territory between object and person. Painted in monochrome, the works evoke classic studio publicity stills while quietly undoing their promise of charm and control.

After Hours at the Museum and Dublin by Dusk are initiatives by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport, supporting venues to stay open longer so that people can explore more of the city’s cultural life after 6pm.

The Mummers’ Tongue Goes Wh***ng Amongst the People (Figures I-IV) are from a series of works by Tim Shaw in our current exhibition, Totems. Part of an ongoing project by the artist, they currently exist as a group of six small figures that were modelled in wax, sacking and straw, then cast into bronze. The title is inspired by a verse from a poem entitled The Last Mummer by Seamus Heaney

‘He came trammelled
in the taboos of the country

picking a nice way through
the long toils of blood

and feuding.
His tongue went wh***ng

among the civil tongues,
he had an eye for weather-eyes

at cross-roads and lane-ends
and could don manners

at a flutter of curtains.
His straw mask and hunch were fabulous

disappearing beyond the lamplit
slabs of a yard.’

The artist’s ultimate goal is to celebrate the significance of the Mummers’ Tongue with the creation of a grouping of large, sculpted figures which would be placed on a hill in South Armagh, close to the Irish border on a site where a British army look-out once stood.

Vera Klute’s ‘Self-portrait’, in tufted wool, showing as part of our group exhibition, Totems.

“Klute is an extraordinary, compelling artist. The 2015 Hennessy Portrait Prize winner, she has a string of honours and accolades to her name. Working across a range of means and media, she is fascinated by how we see, experience and deal with the external world “as subjective agents”. She observes us – and herself – as the strange creature we are.”

Since graduating in fine art from IADT in 2006 with a first-class honours degree, Klute has had solo exhibitions at the RHA Gallery, Dublin, the Butler Gallery, Kilkenny, and at The Molesworth Gallery. She has shown in the group exhibition Rencontres Internationales at the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid and at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin. She won the 2015 Hennessy Portrait Prize, awarded under the auspices of the National Gallery of Ireland, and the Hennessy-Craig Scholarship at the 2015 RHA Annual Show. Her portrait of Sr. Stanislaus Kennedy, commissioned by The National Gallery of Ireland, was added to the National Portrait Collection in 2014, as was her porcelain and concrete bust of Garry Hynes in 2017. Major public commissions undertaken include the sculpture of Luke Kelly on the North Wall in Dublin and an installation in the entrance lobby of the National Children’s Hospital. Vera is a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy.
