A new exhibition has opened at IMMA!

We were delighted to welcome the Palestinian Ambassador, Dr Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid, for a preview of our new exhibition, ‘Eltiqa: How to Work Together?’

Speaking about the exhibition Ambassador Dr Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid, said: “I am grateful to IMMA for hosting and facilitating the Eltiqa Collective’s presentation of Palestinian artists from Gaza and their artistic practices at the Irish Museum of Modern Art. It is wonderful to see 60 works by six Palestinian artists who have managed to sustain this collective despite extraordinary and unimaginable circumstances in Gaza. I hope this exhibition will amplify their voices and convey a powerful message of resilience and hope.”

Curated by The Question of Funding, the exhibition presents work by six artists from Eltiqa, an artist collective based in Gaza City. It tells the story of a community that continues to navigate decades of oppression and adversity. For over 20 years, Eltiqa (Arabic for “encounter”) has developed artistic practices collectively while supporting younger generations of artists in Gaza.

From 29 October, an outdoor screening programme, ‘Is Everything and Everyone all the Time’, curated by The Question of Funding, will be presented on Living Canvas at IMMA, running alongside the exhibition. This screening brings together three films that explore the challenges and impossibility of representing Gaza: Basma Alsharif’s ‘We Began by Measuring Distance’ (2009), Rosalind Nashashibi’s ‘Electrical Gaza’ (2015) and Oraib Toukan’s ‘When Things Occur’ (2016).

Presented in partnership with the National Transport Authority’s (NTA) (TFI) brand, Art in Motion: Routes and Roots transforms a Dublin bus into a vibrant moving canvas. Created by artist Alberta Whittle (.mongrel ), the project was developed in collaboration with poet Dagogo Hart ( ) and community writers’ group The Poetry Vigilantes, part of Dublin 8’s Fatima Groups United ( ).

Keep your eyes peeled, the bus is travelling across several routes on the TFI network in Dublin!

The documentary showcases the lived experiences of young adults born and raised in Ireland who remain without citizenship or secure legal status, and the psychological and structural consequences that follow.

From 22 October, visit our new exhibition ‘Eltiqa: How to Work together?’, presenting the work of an artist collective from Gaza City. Bringing together more than 60 artworks, the exhibition tells the story of a community that has managed to overcome years of oppression.

We are delighted to celebrate Black History Month with a packed programme of events including screenings and a discussion with the GALPAL Collective, a two-day workshop exploring the significance of headwraps across the African diaspora, and much more.

Join us for the launch of a new Field Day collection, curated by Dr Peter Doran, which responds to the 2024 Seamus Deane Field Day Lecture by Amitav Ghosh. The event features a panel discussion with contributors and hosts, including Stephen Rea, Dr Peter Doran, Nuala King-Gallagher, Professor PJ Mathews, Sinéad Mercier, Annie Fletcher, Aurélie Beatley and more. Followed by a reception with guest musicians Neil Martin, Nóirín Ní Riain and Cait Ni Riain.

Celebrate spooky season with a Halloween edition of our Family Explorer Art Workshops, where we will be asking you to help our resident ghost to find his lost possession, costumes are welcome!

This month, Living Canvas at IMMA will be featuring the films ‘Echoes (2025)’ by Petros Moris and ‘Newsreel 670 - Red Forests (2022)’ by Nika Autor month as part of our current exhibition Technologies of Peace.

Today we’re taking a closer look at the work ‘Barbara Novak’, 1993 by George Segal, currently on display as part of our exhibition IMMA Collection: Art as Agency.

George Segal made a cast of Barbara Novak’s head, following her pose for a full-length piece, ‘Street Crossing’, 1992, which is now in the Segal Room in the Montclair Art Museum, New Jersey.

This work uses the process which launched his career as a sculptor in 1961: the unprecedented technique of wrapping the sitter in plaster bandages and then wetting them so that they set to form casts. Removed in sections when dry, they were then re-assembled, the form was adjusted and the surface treated. The pure white colour of most of Segal‘s works, as the artist himself claimed, did away with details which could distract the onlooker‘s attention.

Segal has always sought in his work to evoke a feeling of revelation and of psychological truth. Here, the plaster head is strikingly disposed against a background comprising a section of an old door and its adjacent frame, a fragment of a real-life architectural setting and small-scale relation of the large architectural environments he created for his life-size tableaux. Segal salvaged household hardware and fittings and discarded bedroom furniture which he cut up and incorporated into his sculptures.

Yesterday was the first day of our third Dwell Here assembly week of 2026. At IMMA we are delighted to be joined by three new one-month residents Stanislava Ovchinnikova, Zena Zada Cumpston, and Tom Flanagan. They join IMMA’s one year residents Glenn Loughran, Paul O’Brien, Atoosa Pour Hosseini, Samir Mahmood, Xiao Zhiyu, and Addoley Dzegede. Our assembly weeks make space for IMMA residents to connect through discussion, workshops, site visits, and more.

Dwell Here offers participants a simple proposition: to commit to this time and place while thinking deeply about its urgencies. Together we are curious to learn what can be activated or challenged through the process of dwelling.

Join us this Thursday evening for our September Dublin by Dusk event, Art In Motion: Routes and Roots Community Celebration.

The evening will feature original poetry readings by The Poetry Vigilantes, of Dublin 8’s Fatima Groups United, and the award-winning poet, playwright, and performer Dagogo Hart as compère.

This community gathering is presented by IMMA in celebration of the collaborative project, Art in Motion: Routes and Roots, a mobile artwork on a Dublin bus that brings creativity to the streets of Dublin. The artwork was created by Alberta Whittle and developed in collaboration with poet Dagogo Hart and community writers group The Poetry Vigilantes.

As part of the evening celebration, a selection of videos capturing the Art in Motion project, from the poetry workshops to the final artwork, will be screened on the museum’s large outdoor screen, Living Canvas at IMMA. We welcome you to take a moment to watch the videos during the celebrations.

Art in Motion was launched in June 2026 and is brought to you by IMMA in partnership with the National Transport Authority (NTA) under its Transport for Ireland (TFI) brand.

This event is presented as part of Dublin by Dusk, a city-wide initiative that invites you to experience Dublin city late on the last Thursday of every month.
