We are excited to share the news that our Living Canvas at IMMA partnership with IPUT Real Estate Dublin has been extended by two years!
To celebrate this next chapter of this pioneering cultural collaboration, we are delighted to launch The Park Series: Living Canvas by IPUT at IMMA running from 27 Aug -10 Sept. This series has been curated by writer and curator Gemma Tipton, and brings together a diverse range of moving image works that reflect the creativity, innovation and artistic ambition that have defined Living Canvas since its inception in 2021 at IPUT’s Wilton Park Dublin development.

A special event to mark the extension takes place on 1 Sept, Spaces for Art brings together artists, curators and placemakers to talk about bringing art and place to life, see register details via the link in our bio.

When first installed on the banks of the Grand Canal in 2021, Living Canvas was the largest outdoor digital screen to be solely dedicated to the arts in Europe, and only the second of its kind in the world. Over ten successful seasons, Living Canvas quickly became part of Dublin city’s arts infrastructure, and is now at home on the front lawn at IMMA.

Speaking about this extension, Annie Fletcher, Director, IMMA, said:
“The Park Series is a celebration of everything that was achieved at Wilton Park and a testament to IPUT Real Estate’s continued commitment to supporting Ireland’s cultural sector. Since arriving at IMMA, 750,000 visitors have experienced Living Canvas and it has provided over 3,800 hours of free public engagement with contemporary art and culture. I am delighted that Living Canvas will continue to animate IMMA’s front lawn for another two years, providing a dynamic platform for artistic innovation and integrating contemporary art into daily life in the city.”

Experience poetry in new ways with Literary Lunchtimes. This programme features six films from The Poetry Project, pairing video works by artists such as Cléa van der Grijn, Aideen Barry and Nick Miller alongside poets such as Vona Groarke, Máire Mhac an tSaoi and Derek Mahon.

Poetry on Film combines language, performance, music and moving image, featuring poets including FELISPEAKS, Doireann Ní Ghríofa and Roger Robinson.

Also screening is ‘Canal Water’, by Anthony Woods, with text by Colm Tóibín, a meditation on Dublin, its literary history and the places where words and images meet.

Explore Joan Jonas' 'Woman in the Well' through sound.

This installation is inspired by Irish writer Nuala Ní Dhomhnall’s retelling of the myth of Mis, a woman who descends into madness and savagery after the death of her chieftain father in battle.

Jonas encountered the story during a stay in Dublin in the 1990s while preparing for her first European retrospective in Amsterdam. At the centre of the installation is a traditional wishing well, with a screen at the bottom displaying a video of a swimming woman.

This work exemplifies Jonas’ fascination with storytelling and mythology, and with how tales evolve as they are translated across cultures, contexts and time.

SAVE THE DATE! We’re excited to announce that a new exhibition will open this September at IMMA.

Technologies of Peace: Art and Transition in Contemporary Europe (1989–2026) brings together researchers, artists, thinkers, and curators from across Europe to critically examine one of the defining challenges of our time: the question of peace.

This exhibition will focus specifically on the period between 1989 to the present day, and through the lens of artistic practices will draw parallels between Ireland’s complex political history with those of our European counterparts.

The IMMA Collection will be a central part of the exhibition with key works from Frances Hegarty, Willie Doherty, Cathy Wilkes, Alastair MacLennan, Amanda Dunsmore and Sandra Johnston.

Technologies of Peace: Art and Transition in Contemporary Europe (1989–2026) opens to the public on Saturday 12 September 2026.

We are delighted to present The Park Series, a selection of screenings by Irish and international artists from Living Canvas at Wilton Park. Running from 27 Aug-9 Sept, the programme includes poetry on film with literary lunchtimes, weekend animation mornings for families, and works by filmmakers such as David OReilly, Alan Gilsenan and Kevin McGloughlin. A highlight of the series is Spaces for Art, a talk and screening exploring the relationship between art, place and creative space.

Beginning with a guided tour of 'Fisherwoman, Fisherwoman', this workshop invites participants to explore artworks and their titles as prompts for poetry and collective reflection. Led by poets Alymat Aderayo Salam and Sara Aguisol, participants will consider the “elephant in the room”, the intersection of ecological and humanitarian concerns and their impact on social cohesion across the globe before co-creating and sharing new poems. The workshop will conclude with a live art demonstration, as artwork titles and newly created poems are inscribed onto the body of an elephant drawn on canvas, creating a collective visual reflection of the day’s conversation.

In this hands-on workshop with zine-maker Victory Nwabu-Ekeoma, participants are invited to share stories of their favourite food, meals and memories through zine-making, collage and storytelling. Together, we’ll create a communal cookbook filled with the meals and memories that matter.

Discover a packed programme of events this August as part of Summer at IMMA ☀️ Swipe through to see this month’s highlights!

Join us for ‘The Park Series: Living Canvas by IPUT at IMMA’ screening programme, featuring film work by Irish and international artists from Living Canvas at Wilton Park. The programme includes Poetry on Film with Literary Lunchtimes and Animation Weekends for families. A special event ‘Spaces for Art’ takes place on 1 September where artists and programmers will talk about bringing art and place to life.

Explore our vibrant range of workshops, tours and activities for all ages. Highlights include a Sarau Session, an artist-led gathering; Ghostis, a discussion celebrating the rituals of hospitality; a zine-making workshop exploring food and memory; a biodiversity tour of the flora and fauna across the IMMA site; and weekly lunchtime and evening yoga classes in the Formal Gardens.

Music in the Courtyard also returns with a mix of emerging and established artists. Bring friends and family along to enjoy a wonderful mix of free live music in the courtyard every Sunday in August from 2pm.

Marianne Keating’s ‘Cad Leis a Bhfuilimíd Ailínithe / To What Do We Align’ (2025) examines Ireland’s place within global anti-colonial movements, reflecting on the country’s shifting political identity through a rich collage of archival footage. Yvonne McGuinness’ ‘What’s Left Us Then’ (2023), showing in Dublin for the first time, offers a poetic meditation on the traces of concrete in the rural Irish landscape, exploring the intersections of architecture, memory, and belonging. Both films will continue to screen on Living Canvas at IMMA until 13 August.
