Deaf Heritage Centre Ireland Our vision is to embrace the chequered historical attainments, cultural and linguistic developments,

The Deaf Heritage Centre (DHC) was set up in 1999 by a group of past pupils of St Joseph’s School for Deaf Boys. Our vision is to embrace the chequered historical attainments, cultural and linguistic developments, events and social changes of the Deaf community in Ireland. Our aims are to collate, maintain and protect artefacts, materials and records of the Deaf community, tracing back to 200 year

s ago. The objectives of DHC are to showcase collections of items at its exhibition room, to preserve data and records at its archival room and to provide education on Deaf history in Ireland. We also seek to promote the history of the Deaf Community in Ireland and to encourage the Deaf Community to take pride in their history.

Today, we are deeply saddened to hear of the peaceful passing of Dominic.
Dominic was one of the very best people to work with at the Deaf Heritage Centre. He served for many years as our archivist and gave endless support in helping to create our beautiful displays and exhibitions. He also worked with dedication on the DHC Newsletter, which was shared with pupils, friends, and members of our community.
Dominic’s kindness, commitment, and friendship meant so much to all of us. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege to know and work with him. We would also like to thank John Fennell, who helped support him.
May Dominic rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this sad time. Liam Breen DHC Archivist
