Reflecting on her material research and the history of clay, alongside her interest in the psychological hypothesis of ๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ข๐˜ญ ๐˜ด๐˜ฑ๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ฆ, Vanessa Donoso Lรณpez discusses how she sees her installations as tangible expressions of her lived experience, and as sites of growth, transformation, and transition.

โ€œIn terms of communication, clay is so generous. I love the way anywhere I go I can find it either in nature or buy it easily. Itโ€™s cheap, accessible. People love working with it. I think it has something to do with our ancestry, with the experience of manipulating something that comes from earth. Because of this, I like organising gatherings around clay. It doesnโ€™t matter if people come from different cultures, or if verbal communication is limited, because through clay a different kind of communication emerges.โ€

Temple Bar Gallery + Studios and Bรฉtonsalon are pleased to announce Alexandre Caretti as the inaugural recipient of the TBG+S and Bรฉtonsalon Dublin/Paris Residency Exchange 2026.

Alexandre Caretti is the inaugural recipient of the TBG+S and Bรฉtonsalon Dublin/Paris Residency Exchange 2026, a new opportunity in partnership with the Embassy of France in Ireland, Dublin City Council and the Embassy of Ireland France - Ambassade d'Irlande en France. The residency exchange is an annual award that supports a visual artist living or working in France to spend two months living in Dublin to work from a studio at TBG+S. TBG+S looks forward to welcoming Caretti, who will begin his residency in June 2026. In return, a Dublin-based artist will spend time focusing on artistic research in Bรฉtonsalon, Paris, Octoberโ€“November 2026. The recipient will be announced following selection through an open call process.

Alexandre Carettiโ€™s work often forms an ambiguous and equivocal narrative that emerges from a focus on intimate doubts, fuelled by contemporary political questions such as the economy, work, love, and the art worldโ€™s ecosystems.

Carettiโ€™s practice recently has focussed on the intimate and political relationships which exist within Europe and how they inform cultural identities. Having explored the European Central Bank in Frankfurt and the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Caretti continues his research in Ireland, which will host the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from Julyโ€“December 2026.

Alexandre Caretti: โ€œI'm glad that my journey across Europe can find its way to Ireland, which will host the next presidency of the EU Parliament Council. This will be my first step on Irish soil. To put words on my intuitions, there's something between shamrocks, stars and heaven that I need to dig into deeper, because behind these often hide a lot more ambivalent stories. Behind the shamrock that we see in every souvenir shop lies the history of Ireland; behind the corporate tax haven, a not-so-blissful system; and behind the stars of the EU, a mixed feeling made of utopia and deceptions. I am grateful as the residency will allow me to build on my existing work to strengthen my ongoing project around hopes and disillusions that revolve around a shared European identity."

Temple Bar Gallery + Studios (TBG+S) and Bรฉtonsalon are pleased to announce Alexandre Caretti as the inaugural recipient of the TBG+S and Bรฉtonsalon Dublin/Paris Residency Exchange 2026.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Temple Bar Gallery + Studios would like to congratulate Studio and Board member ๐—œ๐˜€๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—น ๐—ก๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ป on ๐˜‹๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ฎ๐˜ด๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฌ, her commission for the 61st International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia.

The Venice Art Biennale is the most important global platform for the exhibition of visual arts involving the public, members of civil society, individuals and institutions. It offers a unique opportunity for Irish artists to engage with international audiences. TBG+S wishes Nolan, curator Georgina Jackson, The Douglas Hyde Gallery of Contemporary Art, and producer Cian Oโ€™Brien, the best of luck with their presentation and wish them success with this significant achievement.

The exhibition is commissioned by Culture Ireland in partnership with the The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaรญon and is on view at the Irish Pavillon, 09 May โ€“ 22 November 2026.

Responding to this yearโ€™s theme, ๐˜๐˜ฏ ๐˜”๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ ๐˜’๐˜ฆ๐˜บ๐˜ด โ€“ selected by the late Koyo Kouoh, curator of La Biennale, the Irish Pavilion is entitled ๐˜‹๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ฎ๐˜ด๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฌ and emerges from Nolanโ€™s examination of the fifteenth-century Venetian printer Aldus Manutus and his creation of the paperback. Nolanโ€™s work varies from monumental to intimate in scale, allowing the audience to vacillate between wonder and unease, and grounding us in the artistโ€™s question of โ€œhow to love a tumultuous world, an indifferent universe, and humans that are so often awful to each other.โ€

As a Six Year Studio Member and longstanding Board member, Nolan has made many contributions to TBG+S. In addition to Nolanโ€™s representation, TBG+S would like to congratulate valued Studio member ๐—ฅ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—น ๐—™๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐—ผ๐—ป, Irish artist ๐—”๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ and studio alumnus ๐—”๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ฃ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ป on their inclusion in ๐˜๐˜ฏ ๐˜”๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ ๐˜’๐˜ฆ๐˜บ๐˜ด. ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ“ฉ Join us for the opening reception of ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ ๐— ๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ฎ's new multi-channel video work and sculptural installation, ๐˜•๐˜ฐ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜จ๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ฎ, Thursday 14 May 2026, 6โ€“8pm.

The exhibition explores nostalgia as a characteristic of contemporary anxiety, and its instrumentalisation through neoliberal socio-economic systems. This research continues from Mocciaโ€™s long-term work, ๐˜”๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜บ ๐˜ฐ๐˜ง ๐˜“๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ด, which similarly investigates the political context of psychological and emotional states of being. The origins of nostalgia mirror the emergence of Western modernisation and the onset of the Industrial Revolution. Its connection to feelings of homesickness began to also represent a longing across physical and temporal spaces for those separated from their homelands through migration, labour and military service. Setting aside sentimentality, Moccia exposes how nostalgia is exploited to govern and direct emotions by evoking an idealised past and driving nationalistic and ideological interests.
