The Pursuit of Sublime Light:
Free Plein Air Painting workshop
With artist Cornelius Browne
Saturday 29th August
12 noon - 4pm
Glebe House & Gallery are delighted to invite you to this adventurous afternoon of art in our beautiful gardens.
As August days dwindle to a precious few, what better way to bid farewell to summer than by treating a few special hours spent capturing the last light of the season.
Since those long-ago summers of JMW Turner and John Constable and John Constable, plein air painters have been in search of what these artists termed "sublime light".
Cornelius will be here to share his experiences from a lifetime of creating fast, vigorous paintings and drawings in the field - whatever the weather, the light here at the Glebe will as always be sublime, so do join us as we set off in pursuit!
A plein air painter to the core, Cornelius hadn't painted under a roof since 1992. He has an honours degree in Fine Art Painting from the National College of Art & Design in Dublin, and worked for many years at the Irish Museum of Modern Art. He has exhibited paintings widely.
For seven years he has written a plein air column for the VAN published by Visual Artists' Ireland.
In the words of editor, Joanne Laws:
"As a regular contributor to VAN, Cornelius has beautifully articulated the seasonal fluctuations of painting outdoors, as well as the theoretical and materials concerns in his work".
His most recent exhibition was Home Birds: A Duet in Paint, a joint exhibition with his wife Paula Corcoran earlier this summer at An Gailearaí, here in Donegal.
