Tá an bhliain tagaithe timpeall arís agus Féile iontach na Bealtaine sa leithinis arís. Táimíd áthasach trí thaispeántas difrúil idir dhealbhadóireacht, péintálacha agus saothar gloine, i dteannta le dráma a bheith á léiriú san Ionad le linn na féile.
The Blasket Centre is adorned with artworks, stained glass and sculpture for the annual Féile na Bealtaine. We are proud to facilitate the showing of all this stunning work and to be the western outpost of this extraordinary arts festival! We also have a theatrical production 'Small Sounds' on May 2 and 3. Drop by!

Great to be back on An Blascaod Mór, the Great Blasket island, for 2026 and remind ourselves what our work is about: the extraordinary heritage and story of our ancestors, the outstanding beauty and priceless environment of which we are custodians.

Mar a scríobh de Brún faoi aistear eile, ach a tháinig chun cuimhne i dtaobh an oileán tiar is sin ag filleadh ann:

"Ghluais an long thar lintibh mara
Fad ó shin is a crann mar ór
Scríobh a scéal ar phár na hoiche,
Ard i rian na réaltán mór"

Daonáireamh 1926 - Census 1926

Tá Daonáireamh 1926 foilsithe ar líne le roinnt laethanta agus mórán seoda staire, ginealaigh agus sosialta le foghlaim as! Bhí 141 duine ar an mBlascaod Mór ar an 18ú Aibreán, 1926, 74 acu 20 bliain nó níos lú d'aois.
Seo leathnach ina bhfuil áireamh ar Rí an Bhlascaoid Pádraig Ó Catháin is a theaghlach - é féin 69 bliain d'aois, a ghairm tughta mar 'Fear an Phuist', ag obair 'don tSaorstát'

The publication online in recent days of the 1926 Census - the first after Irish independence - will yield much invaluable social, historical and genealogical information.
The census recorded 141 people on the Great Blasket on the night of April 18, 1926, 74 of whom were aged 20 or younger.
This entry shows the the household of the King of the Blasket, including the King himself, Pádraig Ó Catháin, aged 69, profession Postman and employed by the Irish Free State.

Explore the Extraordinary
We are delighted to announce the re-opening of seasonal heritage sites across Ireland from 12th March 2026. The new season offers a great opportunity for visitors to explore the extraordinary in their local areas. In Dunquin, the most westerly parish on the Di**le Peninsula, is a unique heritage centre and museum. The Blasket Centre tells the story of the Blasket Islands and the tiny Irish speaking community who lived there until the mid-20th century.

The Blasket Centre reopened for the 2026 Visitor Season on 6th March.
