Built in 1824, Women, men and children were imprisoned here for various crimes and some were held here before Transportation to Australia. During the early 20th Century, Political prisoners were kept here during the Irish Civil War. Under 18s must be accompanied by an Adult. Please see our website for most up to date information.

Things that happen when you work in a gaol part one!

Our last prisoners left in 1923 and we have been a proud heritage centre since the 1990s. We often wonder does the current Cork prison get our phonecalls like we do theirs😂👮‍♀️👮‍♂️

On this day in 1879 one Honora McCarthy from 4 Hughes Lane in Cork City was about to commit the crime of assault and threatening of Catherine Daly! On the prisoner register her profession is written as 'dealer' and she was able to read. She was sentenced to one calendar month.
