Pitch and Toss by Diarmuid O Ceallachain

Diarmuid O Ceallacháin (1915-1993) whose birthday would have been today, grew up on the Northside of Cork City. He was a neighbour and schoolmate of Frank O Conner and like him, in this painting he observes the games and pastimes of the youth of that time and place. I'll miss this Rogues Gallery which evolved in Studio 2 over my 2 month residency at at Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre. Every one of them was unique and each had their own story and a past (sometimes unknown) . It was a pleasure to meet all who came to participate in The West Cork Bestiary, both 4-legged and 2- legged. Thanks especially to all the staff at Uillinn who are so helpful, supportive and cheerful and make it a great place to produce art. I still have some dog portraits to post so watch this space and don't forget to order your limited edition calender launching at the end of November accompanied by an exhibition.

My next 5-week "Wilding the Watercolour" course is starting at Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre on Wednesday 13th Nov. There will be special emphasis on the winter watercolour. This will be an opportunity to prepare for the staccato shapes and crisp contrasts of this season and may also to lead to creating a special present or some original seasonal greeting cards.

I'm giving an artist's talk at UIllinn tomorrow- all welcome!

Artist in Residence Noël O’ Callaghan will talk about her work on The West Cork Bestiary on Saturday
12th October at 2.30 pm. During her 2 month residency at Uillinn she has been researching West Cork
animals, making portraits of domestic, wild and agricultural creatures, and mapping out their locations.
Many dogs have attended her “salons” at Studio 2 and in this talk she will show the results of these live
painting sessions. She will also give a brief history of her past artistic engagement with animals with
examples from her time living in Berlin. The physical and the metaphysical resonance of animals is an
area of interest which she will also touch on. The 9 minute film “ Feathers for Rosa” which she made
earlier this year in collaboration with Douglas Henderson was recently selected for the IndieCork Film
Festival and will also be shown.

The West Cork Premiere of "Feathers for Rosa" happens next Friday at Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre at 5pm. This 9-minute experimental film pays tribute to Rosa Luxemburg, the visionary communist, feminist, ecologist and revolutionary with a poem by Paul Celan, specially composed music by Douglas Henderson and paintings by Noël O' Callaghan. "Feathers for Rosa" will also be screened at The Arc cinema in Cork on the 7th October as part of IndieCork Film Festival. On Friday in Studio 2 , the filmmakers will be present to answer any questions about the film or their life in Berlin both before and after the wall.

Delighted that our short film "Feathers for Rosa" has been selected for IndieCork Film Festival. Looking forward to seeing it on the big screen at the Arc Cinema between the 19 and 13th October. This 9 minute film was shot on the Landwehr canal, Berlin and is a tribute to Rosa Luxemburg featuring the poetry of Paul Celan. original music by douglas Henderson and my paintings. It was shown in the New Theatre, dublin arlier this year as part of our live theatre event of the sane name

Changelings in Nighttown - last day is tomorrow! Michaela Helfrich Galerie is open from 14.00 till 18.00. Some of the paintings from the Feathers for Rosa series, like these , are on display.

I would love to see some of my father's works that are in the Crawford Art Gallery collection go on display again. The public are invited to choose works for the last exhibition before it closes for renovations so please request one of Diarmuid O Ceallachain 's below. The Fiddler was on display last year but I haven't seen Bith Ghlas (one of the late Brigid Flannery's favourites) for decades and I don't remember ever seeing the beautiful Dripsey Castle except in the 1979 AIB calendar of the collection and prints of it in the shop. It is easy to vote - I have put the link in the comments and the titles are on each work...
