Shaping the inside of the Yew bowl. Using a bowl gouge on the inside then working on the rim with a scraper to get a smooth finish. It gets trickier as you move out towards the outside edge as you no longer have the support of the wood and are often cutting air instead of wood. 🌲☘️🇮🇪

Nail number four 4⃣ 💅 🔎 More shaping to the outside of the Yew then sanding. 🌲☘️🇮🇪

One sure way of finding a nail inside some wood is to use a freshly sharpened bowl gouge... 🙈 I had already removed two nails before I started, it's hard to see them when the tree had grown around them. Shaping the outside of the Yew to form a bowl shape. 🌲☘️🇮🇪

Let's see what is inside this piece of Yew 🌲 🌲 ☘️ 🇮🇪

Just an example of where ideas can come from and where they lead. On the left 👈 is a chair I made in 2013, upper 👆 right is a chair from the late 19th century which gave me a design idea 💡 Carved spine in Sycamore with flamed beech chair. The chair on the right is from the National Museum of Ireland (decorative arts and history) 🇮🇪
