🎸 ONCE WE WERE PUNKS - The Best Band You Never Heard.

The ex-punks of Bailieboro, Co. Cavan might say maturity is overrated. As The Panic Merchants, a four-piece in the late 1980s, they caught a fleeting glimpse of the big time.

Then notions gave way to careers, adulthood and emigration. Separated by oceans for the past three decades, those barnstorming memories might tenuously connect four school pals across three continents. Except the past can mean more than distance, especially when ex-punks revive young dreams in middle age.

🎬 The 96-minute film is followed by a Q&A. Directed by Frank Shouldice and produced by Igloo Films.

Making a welcome return to Bailieboro, The Man Who Wanted To Fly will mark a timely celebration for Bobby Coote’s 90th birthday.

Since its premiere at Galway Film Fleadh in 2018, the film has charmed audiences all over the world, picking up a total of 26 international awards.
Filmed by Dave Perry, directed by Frank Shouldice, edited by Emer O’Clery, with an original score by Giles Packham, the filmmakers are delighted to bring this unique Cavan documentary back to where the adventure first started.

Step back in time this with our mini-exhibition, 'Forgotten Lives from the Bridewell'.
Inspired by this year’s theme, 'Heritage at Risk', the exhibition explores the lived experiences of ordinary people in and around Bailieborough Bridewell when it was a functioning gaol in the nineteenth century.
Kindly supported by Cavan Heritage and The Heritage Council.
