Our Axolotls, Axel and Lottie have been a great hit so far in the aquarium! But many people are unsure what they are and where they are from? So we have put together a little fact sheet to let everyone know some cool facts about these amazing animals.

Axolotls are critically endangered, fully aquatic salamanders native only to the Lake Xochimilco basin in Mexico. Often called "Mexican walking fish" or "water monsters," they are famous for never outgrowing their juvenile form and possessing the miraculous ability to regrow lost limbs, hearts, and brain.

We run tours every 45 minutes starting at 10:00am tomorrow so why not say hello to Axel and Lottie in person and learn more about the amazing creatures that live under the waves.

The Achill Experience is delighted to announce we are now available for school tours. At the Achill Experience your students will have fun while learning about the fish and marine animals that are native to Ireland and also from tropical regions. We know all school tours are unique and we can tailor a package to suit your students needs if necessary. Each school tour consists of.

🦀45 minute educational tour of all our tanks in our newly expanded Aquarium, consisting of salt water, freshwater and tropical tanks.

🦀Learn all about our native species, conservation and sustainability.
Historical Interpretive Centre (self-guided).

🦀Optional tour of the Deserted Village can also be arranged for a modest
additional fee.

🦀 School tours also available in Irish /
