IN CONVERSATION /

In Conversation with Liz Nielsen at Olympic Studios

Join us for a captivating evening as Kathlene Fox-Davies - art-historian, curator and founder of London-based gallery, Black Box Projects - sits down in conversation with internationally renowned artist Liz Nielsen, whose innovative work is redefining the boundaries of contemporary photography.

Liz Nielsen’s practice is a contemporary application of one of the best-known avant-garde photographic processes — the photogram — first mastered by Man Ray and László Moholy-Nagy in the early twentieth century. Working without a camera, each of Nielsen’s unique images are created in her studio using handmade negatives and ‘found’ light sources. She describes her process as “painting with light”, referencing the performative nature of its creation and the deep interaction between light, colour, and form.

This intimate conversation will explore the artist’s creative process, experimental techniques, and evolving photo-based practice, alongside a virtual tour of her New York studio. Liz will also discuss upcoming exhibitions, public commissions, and her new monograph, featuring original texts by Martin Barnes (V&A) and Sarah Allen (South London Gallery).

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to engage with one of the most exciting and original voices in contemporary art today.

CAST AWAY / VICTORIA MARQUES PINTO

Imagine a world defined by what we discard: memories intertwined with man-made waste; our bodies undisguisable from the plastic-nature of modern life…

Artist Victoria Marques Pinto explores the dystopian realities of the human impact on our natural world in her series Lost Paradise where she incorporates found plastic waste as collage elements into her archival family photographs. The waste has been collected from the very locations featured in her images, resulting in jarring, surrealistic and tongue-in-cheek remaking’s of the artist’s fond childhood memories.

Marques Pinto suggests a world where identity is obscured by the consequences of our consumerism and our natural world is marred by the waste we discard.

Each work in the Lost Paradise series is unique, featuring plastic that has been collected by the artist from her beach clean-ups. The photographic collages of Victoria Marques Pinto are presented in artist-designed, handmade frames with museum UV glaze.
