Kevin Cheung 張瑋晉

Kevin Cheung, Wai Chun is an upcycling product designer based in Hong Kong. He is good at turning the waste into attractive and durable artworks and products.

畢業於香港理工大學設計系（產品設計），張瑋晉投入Upcycling產品開發，並透過各種渠道提高公眾的環保意識。在創造產品的同時，他相信設計師有能力和責任保護環境，以可持續的態度平衡生態、經濟和社會三大支柱，惠澤社會。他擅長將一般人眼中的廢料蛻變成耐看、耐用的藝術品和產品。

Graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University with major of Product Design. Kevin devotes himself in developing upcycling products and raising public’s eco-awareness. At the same time, he believes that designers have the ability and obligation to protect the environment in order to sustain the balance between the eco-system, economy and the society.

Golden Pin Design Award 2026 | 金點設計獎 2026
好榮幸「Canify 屋頂瓦片系統」獲得今年金點設計獎標章，並將會於金點設計展展出！
作為我第一個開源（Open-source）項目，Canify 結合咗開罐器Can Slicer，將設計圖紙同製作步驟完全公開。大眾只要跟住簡單三個步驟，就可以將普通鋁罐剪開，摺成互相扣連、防風防雨嘅屋瓦片。透過呢個project希望可以鼓勵倒更多人一齊探索低碳建築嘅可能性，同時促進在地社區嘅升級再造。

Honored to announce that the Canify Rooftile System has received the Golden Pin Design Award Design Mark and will be showcased at the official Golden Pin Design Exhibition! �
As my first open-source initiative, Canify shares full blueprints and step-by-step guides online. By incorporating the Can Slicer tool, anyone can transform ordinary aluminium cans into an interlocking, weatherproof roof tile system in just three simple steps, expanding the possibilities for low-carbon building and empowering localized community upcycling.�

For those who have joint our sodafly workshop recently must have laid hands on this machine.
The die cut machine inside a suitcase, the idea is to have a “traveling factory” where everyone can be involved in the whole process. Took more than 3 years to experiment and develop, new video on youtube explaining the process behind.

The candle carousel is a traditional German art with a history dated back to pre-industrialization age,
which uses the heat a candle generates to rotate the windmill, bringing the ornaments moves and come to life.
Made of recycled soda can, the Soda Carousel comes with a set of unique patterns and colors, self-assemble into a one of a kind festive decoration for the table top.

The Can Slicer is a tool to slice open aluminium cans, turning them into flat sheets of metal for upcycling projects.
It allows the process of cutting to be more efficient, quick and easy.
Made of locally recycled HDPE with precious plastic machines from Fablab Tokwawan.

“The average amount of plastic disposed of daily totalled 2,331 tonnes in 2021 — similar to the weight of nearly 70 adult humpback whales.” - HKFP

Following April’s partial ban on single-use plastics, businesses in Hong Kong are switching to paper containers and tableware that claims to be biodegradable.
With the fact that Hong Kong’s three remaining landfills expected to be full by 2030, all single-use are bad.

The 8 meters long “Trash Whale” is made up of 2,331 pieces of disposable tableware. Supported by a bamboo structure, with an outer layer consisting of various plastic lunchboxes and lids, the whale is surrounded by paper containers and tableware.
In collaboration with Greenpeace, the installation aimed to draw public attention to the financial and environmental costs behind single-use plastic or other unnecessary packaging. Urging the government and chain companies to establish a reusable tableware lending and return service target and timetable.

繼四月開始實施的即棄膠餐具和其他塑膠產品管制後，香港餐飲業開始改用聲稱可生物分解的紙質容器和餐具。
但面對香港三個預計到 2030 年將填滿的垃圾堆填區，轉用非塑膠即棄餐具並無助減廢。

這條8米長的鯨魚裝置由2,331件一次性餐具組成。鯨魚由竹結構支撐，外層由各種塑膠飯盒和蓋組成，再被紙杯和餐具包圍。
該裝置與綠色和平組織合作，旨在引起公眾對一次性塑膠和其他不必要包裝背後的經濟和環境成本的關注。督促政府和連鎖企業制定可重用餐具借還服務目標和時間表。

A Scottish Wh***ey brand opening a new flagship shop in Hong Kong, they wanted to make some noise with a uniquely sustainable touch.

This 12-key xylophone is made of retired wh***ey cask from factory in Scotland. These wh***ey soaked oak creates a deep and rich pitch and emit a unique aroma of the spirit when played.

The process has been documented and shared online with the intention to allow anyone to be able to replicate the project with any other types of wood.
