Wael Shawky’s ‘I Am Hymns of the New Temples’ is now open at Cissy Pui-Lai Pao and Shinichiro Watari Galleries, L2.

Set among the ruins of Pompeii, the video follows masked figures moving through the remnants of the ancient city. The work reinterprets shared creation myths and theatrical traditions through storytelling, and the way narratives are adapted and reshaped for national purposes.

4月18日，M+舉辦了為期一天的「前衛正！」豐富活動。是次的「尋幽探祕」節目邀得亞洲女性主義藝術研究工作室、HeeSue Kwon 、李新傑與都拉博森乍倫等藝術家及藝術團體參與，節目提出嶄新的想法，探討在尋覓路徑的過程中、在回程的行為裏，或僅僅在確定未來路向之時所顯現的空間。無論是以菲林拍攝，還是作現場演出，這些作品皆探問、描繪和體現我們如何以或真實或虛構的方式辨識方向，了解我們曾身處之所，以及為地方賦予特別意義。

On 18 April, M+ held an extraordinary edition of the one-day series ‘Avant-Garde Now’. This edition, ‘Wayfinding’, featured works by AFSAR, HeeSue Kwon, Li San Kit, and Tulapop Saenjaroen, offering perspectives on the spaces that are brought to the forefront in the process of finding a path, in the act of returning, and the effort of defining where to go. Whether shot on celluloid or transformed in real time, these works measure, describe, and perform the real and fictive ways in which we find our bearings, understand where we’ve been, and imbue places with specific meaning.

Following ‘Avant-Garde Now: Wayfinding’, our year-long exploration of space will continue with the forthcoming ‘Asian Avant-Garde Film Festival: Space Enter Shift’ (29–31 May 2026). Across the vibrant three-day event, pioneering artists, collectives and filmmakers from different parts of Asia, including ikkibawiKrrr, Larissa Sansour, Rirkrit Tiravanija, and Xu Bing come together to explore the topic of space through transformative time-based media presentations.
