𝐄𝐱𝐡𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐎𝐧 𝐕𝐢𝐞𝐰 | 當期展覽
日本戰後前衛大師磯邊行久用石粉與大地藝術，把隱形的環境歷史重新「挖」出來；而已故藝術家水島哲雄（Tetsuo Mizù）則把航海信號旗變成充滿詩意的幾何色彩，偷偷把內心的眷戀與記憶藏進去。

一個像偵探般精確，一個像詩人般浪漫。兩位大師跨越六十年的創作，都在做同一件複雜並精細事：在事物消失之前，把它們保存下來。正如哲學家華特·班雅明說過：「痕跡是接近的顯現，但已經消失。」

‘𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀’ pairs Japan’s postwar avant-garde pioneer Yukihisa Isobe with the late geometric master Tetsuo Mizù. On paper, they couldn’t be more distinct: Isobe uses stone dust and land-art to map our invisible environments, while Mizù turns maritime signal flags into luminous, lyrical letters of longing.

Yet both spent six decades obsessing over one delicate act: marking what is at risk of disappearing. As Walter Benjamin once put it, a trace is simply “the appearance of a nearness, however far removed.”

Yukihisa Isobe & Tetsuo Mizù‘s dual exhibition ‘𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬’ is on view at Whitestone Gallery Hong Kong from September 5 to September 24, 2026.

In Part 2 of our Artist Q&A with Japanese artist Shizuka Ando, she introduces 𝑩𝒆𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝑷𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕 𝑰𝑰, a piece from her "Light and Shadow" series. The artwork depicts three dancers lined up on a stage, capturing that precise, fleeting moment when they are about to step forward.

For Ando, the title represents a boundary that captures a feeling of expectation mixed with tension. It also reflects a universal human duality: the self we show to others, and the self we face privately without showing anyone. By masterfully using light and shadow, she expresses this duality and brings these two contrasting sides of our identity to life.

How many sides of yourself do you show to the world? 🎭✨

In Part 2 of our Artist Q&A with artist Azuki Furuya, she reveals the deeper meaning behind her artwork. At first glance, you might see two distinct figures in this piece. But look closer, it actually depicts two faces, or two different personalities, residing within a single person.

Drawing from her experiences working abroad, Furuya felt a strong desire to emphasize her cultural roots. To express this, she meticulously creates collages using traditional Japanese patterns and washi paper, beautifully blending her inner emotional landscape with her rich cultural heritage.

"In these works, I depict various worlds of water, symbolizing the red-light districts where the oiran lived."

Japanese artist Azuki Furuya explores the duality of freedom and remaining within the boundaries of history and tradition. Through the brushwork, Furuya contrasts two distinct spiritual states: one figure rising from the liquid realm toward solid ground in search of liberation, and another quietly rooted within the water's depths. 🌊✨

"Identity is not a fixed state, but a continuous process of transformation." 💭✨

We are pleased to share a closer look at German artist Rebecca Bernau’s work, featured in the group exhibition 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐞𝐫 at Whitestone Gallery Hong Kong.

In her painting 𝑯𝒊𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑶𝒖𝒕 𝑰𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑶𝒑𝒆𝒏, Bernau uses the human body as a canvas for experiences and memories. By blending digital and physical layers, she creates fluid compositions where figures merge into abstract colour fields. It becomes impossible to tell where one silhouette ends and another begins, a beautiful visual representation of how our conscious and unconscious layers coexist, heavily influencing how we behave and who we become. 🌿🎨

「身份從非一成不變，而是一個持續蛻變的過程。」 💭✨

非常榮幸能與大家一同深入探索德國藝術家麗貝卡·貝爾瑙（Rebecca Bernau）的創作理念。她的作品現正於香港白石畫廊的聯展《成為她》中展出。
