Rubbing is a technique that uses ink or pigments to capture the decorative patterns on artefacts. The exhibition “On Ink and Bamboo: The Hua-e Jiaohui Lou Donation” features ink rubbings taken from bamboo and wood carvings, bringing their intricate designs into clearer view.

【Welcome Aboard! 歡迎乘搭星際渡輪】
What would Hong Kong look like from outer space?
Join landscape painter Wong Chun-hei aboard the Star Ferry for an interstellar voyage, and look back to discover a completely different silhouette of Hong Kong from above. During his residency at the HKMoA, Wong will create new works on-site and share with the audience his creative journey, as well as travel stories and scenery captured in his plein-air sketches.

Since opening in May, “Fermata: Hong Kong in Venice” has welcomed visitors from around the world, who have shared personal moments of 𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘢 with us at the exhibition.
Through five sets of site-specific installations employing light, sound and kinetic elements, artists Kingsley Ng and Angel Hui have transformed the exhibition space into a quiet place for contemplation, inviting visitors to slow down and sense the rhythms of everyday life that often go unnoticed.

【Fragrant Summer Memories 盛夏滿載芳香回憶】
Thanks to the generous sponsorship and support from the Friends of Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Summer Art Cadets programme brings together children and teenagers every year to explore the diverse world of art and arouse the cadets' interest in learning at museums!
This year, Hong Kong Ikebana Professor Verdy Leung and his teaching team facilitate the cadets to explore through the art and culture of Ikebana. The cadets took part in a curator-led tour and a series of learning activities designed by Leung’s team, to enjoy seeing the exhibits and gain inspiration for their floral works.

【Shimmering Glimpses 浮光掠影】
In her installation 𝘋𝘳𝘪𝘧𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘚𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘺, artist Angel Hui skilfully brings a familiar streetside memory from Hong Kong to Venice.
The artist invited Suzhou embroiderers to draw on their intricate techniques to stitch vivid goldfish patterns onto ordinary plastic bags, bringing refined traditional craftsmanship into dialogue with humble everyday disposable materials. Animated by kinetic devices, light and sound, the goldfish appear to drift gently through the air. For people in Hong Kong, the image of goldfish in plastic bag recalls a shared memory of everyday life, while in Venice, the work quietly echoes the shimmering reflections of the canals.
The exhibition “Fermata: Hong Kong in Venice” is now on view in Venice. Step into a corner of Hong Kong and take a moment to observe the subtle rhythms of everyday life amid flickering light.

許開嬌以裝置作品《浮光一隅》，讓香港的街頭記憶巧妙地「游」進水都。
藝術家請繡娘以精緻的蘇州刺繡，把一條條栩栩如生的金魚繡在平凡的透明膠袋上，將極致的傳統工藝與廉價的現代日常消耗品相結合。再配合電子裝置，讓金魚隨着光影、音效上下浮動，恍如在半空中輕盈游曳。對香港人而言，膠袋裏的金魚是生活中的共同記憶；對威尼斯觀眾而言，這作品又與水都的運河波光暗暗呼應。

【Next Generation Curators’ blog: Lok 新世代館長日誌：Lok 】
HKMoA is proud to present “The Next Generation Curators Programme”, a two-year mentorship initiative generously sponsored by the Susan Chen Foundation. Lok is one of our six Next Generation Curators.
Since joining the Hong Kong Art team, Lok has participated in curatorial work for the “Live: Hong Kong Art Exhibition”. In addition to assisting with artwork installation and publication editing, he has visited artists’ studios with curators to conduct interviews and prepare for the artist-in-residence programme. Supported by the Foundation, he participated in the internship for “Fermata: Hong Kong in Venice” to promote Hong Kong art abroad.
Lok is working with fellow curators to prepare for the next contemporary art exhibition. “I’m looking forward to participating in future projects, sharing Hong Kong art with our visitors”, he says.
為期兩年的「新世代館長拔尖計劃」由陳淑貞慈善基金會慷慨贊助。Lok是其中六位新世代館長之一。
Lok加入香港藝術組參與「當下──香港藝術展」的策展工作，除了協助展品布置、編輯刊物等，他還跟隨館長們走訪藝術家工作室拍攝訪問和籌備藝術家駐場活動。他亦獲基金會支持，參與「延音──香港在威尼斯」的實習，於海外繼續推廣香港藝術。
目前Lok正與館長們籌備下一個當代藝術展覽，他說：「期待於未來參與更多項目，將香港藝術帶給觀眾。」

【Venice Biennale Interns’ journals: Winnie and Ann 威尼斯實習生手記：Winnie及Ann 】
As part of the “Venice Biennale Internship Programme 2026”, Winnie and Ann completed their placements in Venice from July to September. For both interns, the most memorable experience was the opportunity to engage daily with audiences from around the world. Winnie shared that many visitors found the exhibition evocative of their memories of Hong Kong. Likewise, Ann noted that she was delighted to receive visitors from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds and to see them connect with the artworks in their own way.
Since the internship began in May, six selected interns have taken turns travelling to Venice for their placements. If you have the opportunity to visit Venice, please stop by “Fermata: Hong Kong in Venice” and take a moment to share your thoughts with our interns.

【🐱: I’m Watching You… 「貓」視眈眈】
Was the Ming painter Zhang Chong a cat lover too? Why else would he have slipped such a delightful moment into his work 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘚𝘬𝘦𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘴? A cat, poised in the shadows; a shoal of fish, drifting at their ease. The scene is silent and still, yet vividly alive as the handscroll unrolls.
Come and explore the exhibition “Reading and Re-reading: Chinese Painting and Calligraphy”, where you will find the joys of life captured in ink and brush.
This handscroll is displayed in sections over the exhibition period.

【Largest Bamboo Carving Donation in Four Decades 40年來最大宗竹刻捐贈】
The Hong Kong Museum of Art is honoured to receive from Dr Kössen M. T. Ho a generous donation which consists of over 340 items from the Hua-e Jiaohui Lou Collection. This diverse collection encompasses bamboo carvings, wood carvings, Chinese painting and calligraphy, ink rubbings and textiles, with modern bamboo carvings forming the largest category. It also marks the largest gift of bamboo carvings to a local museum in 40 years. Many of these objects were personally designed by Dr. Ho, reflecting the donor’s distinctive artistic taste.
“On Ink and Bamboo: The Hua-e Jiaohui Lou Donation” presents a curated selection of more than 200 sets of bamboo and wood scholar’s objects, calligraphy, paintings, and precious Chinese antiquities, highlighting the refined dialogue between craftsmen, scholars, painters and the collector himself through the timeless art of bamboo carving.

香港藝術館喜獲何孟澈醫生捐贈「華萼交輝樓」藏品逾三百四十件，涵蓋竹刻、木刻、書畫、拓本及紡織珍品，當中尤以近代竹刻為最，亦是40年來香港博物館界所獲最大宗的竹刻捐贈。這些竹木文玩多由何醫生親自設計，由此可見其別具一格的藝術品味。
「竹墨之間——華萼交輝樓藏品捐贈展」精選當中約二百組竹木文玩、名家書畫及珍貴文物，呈現匠人與文人、藏家與畫家透過竹刻藝術所交織出的清雅對話。
展期由2026.10.30起。
