This time, we have a unique guest from Odessa – artist Mykola Prokopenko, one of the most distinctive masters of contemporary Ukrainian painting. His canvases are a poetry of color, the warmth of the southern sun, and amazing femininity, conveyed with deep love and philosophy.
Mykola's works are in museums and private collections around the world, and now they are being presented for the first time here on the Côte d'Azur.
Nikolai Prokopenko's works are held in 83 museums and galleries in Ukraine, Europe, the USA, England, Russia, Germany, Mexico, Moldova, and the CIS countries. His works are also held in private collections in Europe, the USA, England, Germany, Mexico, Canada, Greece, Norway, Israel, Austria, Russia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Moldova, Poland, Yugoslavia (Serbia), Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, and other countries.

🏛️ Музей історії міста Києва у співпраці з Музеєм авангарду та галереєю Les Noms Galerie презентує виставку:

«Коля Новіков: Ізгой, Бунтар, Художник-геній» — мистецький проєкт, що занурює відвідувачів у життя і творчість одного з найбільш недооцінених художників-геніїв ХХ століття.

🎨 Микола Новіков — видатний митець, який ще за життя став легендою Одеси. Київ, Харків і Одеса утворювали географічний трикутник, що визначав розвиток і поширення українського художнього авангарду в першій половині ХХ століття. У 1960-х роках, у період «відлиги», з’явилася група митців, які повернулися до авангардизму, відкинувши соціалістичний реалізм. Серед них був і представник одеського андеграунду — Коля Новіков.

🖌️ Його життєва історія — це гармонійне поєднання бунтарства, маргінальності та геніальності. Його картини — це візуальні маніфести внутрішнього протесту, що проявляється в агресивній і нервовій манері живопису. Виставка «Коля Новіков: Ізгой, Бунтар, Художник-геній» — це подорож крізь ексцентричне життя і творчий спадок художника, що відображає як драматичну боротьбу непересічної особистості зі світом, так і постійний пошук свого місця в суспільстві, яке відкидає, ігнорує та оточує ворожістю.

🏛️ The Museum of the History of Kyiv, in collaboration with the Museum of the Avant-Garde and Les Noms Galerie, presents the exhibition:

“Kolya Novikov: Outcast, Rebel, Genius Artist” — an artistic project that immerses visitors in the life and work of one of the most underrated genius artists of the 20th century.

🎨 Mykola Novikov was a remarkable artist who became a legendary figure in Odesa during his lifetime. Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa formed a geographic triangle that shaped the development and spread of Ukrainian avant-garde art in the first half of the 20th century. In the 1960s, during the “Thaw” period, a group of artists emerged who returned to avant-gardism, rejecting socialist realism. Among them was Kolya Novikov, a representative of the Odesa underground.

🖌️ His life story is a harmonious blend of rebellion, marginality, and brilliance. His paintings are visual manifestos of inner protest, expressed through an aggressive and nervous style of painting. The exhibition “Kolya Novikov: Outcast, Rebel, Genius Artist” is a journey through the eccentric life and creative legacy of an artist whose work reflects both the dramatic struggle of an extraordinary personality with the world and the constant search for a place in a society that rejects, ignores, and surrounds with hostility.

He initiated the creation of the Artsyz Art School in the Odessa region and worked there as a director as well. Exhibitor of numerous all-union, republican and international exhibitions (1970).
