📣 Join Hong Kong–based writer and curator Jianru Wu and artist Lau Wai for an intimate talk tracing the evolution of their decade-long investigation into identity, archival memory, and the construction of the self through images. Lau will share how their practice shifted from working with photography and archives to inserting their own body—and eventually a digital double—into the frame. The conversation will be conducted in English.

DE SARTHE is pleased to present After ‘Intelligence’, a solo exhibition by Hong Kong-based artist Lau Wai, on view from 5 to 25 September 2026. Five video works together with a single-player video game across three installations chart a closed loop in which humans undergo AI training while AI learns to mimic humans, landing on a question that has become unavoidable: what defines the human in this digital age? At the center of that narrative is Wai, a digital avatar Lau built by motion and facial capture. Wai begins as an office worker who signs up for a “Human to AI” training course to stay competitive, and is digitized in the process. The exhibition concludes the ninth annual de Sarthe Artist Residency (deSAR).

DE SARTHE is pleased to announce its ninth annual de Sarthe Residency (deSAR), featuring resident artist Lau Wai (b. 1982 Hong Kong; lives and works in Hong Kong). Transforming the gallery into an open studio, Lau will create new artworks in the space and invite the public to witness their creative process during normal gallery hours. deSAR runs from July 8 to September 4, and will culminate in a three-week exhibition opening on September 5th.
