Leo Gallery Interview | .doe_

“My working habit is to engage in deep research and then create with a general theme embedded in the back of my mind. However, it is important to me that the paintings do not become overly figurative or literal, so I often draw inspiration from the subconscious. Usually, it is only when looking back after the fact that I notice the emergence of those interwoven themes and symbols. I suppose it is a bit like interpreting past dreams.”

The dual solo exhibition Thicket Flow by artists Yafeng Duan and Lin Jing has grandly opened on May 23rd at Leo Gallery Shanghai.

The exhibition brings together the recent paintings of the two artists. Lin Jing’s colors are bold and profound, forming a dense and tension-filled visual thicket.

Yafeng Duan, working through intuition and meditation, transforms her perception of mist and flowing water into an ethereal, drifting visual flow.

“Thicket” is interweaving and sheltering; “Flow” is threading and seeping — standing within the thicket flow, the viewer’s gaze becomes the path. The exhibition is on view till July 5, 2026.

Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us and the artist. 🌿 The gallery was filled with thoughtful conversations as guests moved through Doe’s carefully constructed environments — where bodies, plants, and structures quietly merge and hold one another in balance.

If you missed the reception, The Raft is now on view at Leo Gallery Hong Kong. We look forward to welcoming you. 🖼️

Tonight, Leo Gallery Hong Kong is pleased to open .doe_ ’s solo exhibition “The Raft”, with an opening reception from 6–8pm.

Taking the raft as metaphor, Doe expands a life-saving vessel into a structural condition that underpins and shapes form in the process of becoming. Human figures and plant forms intertwine in states of co-growth, sustained by frameworks that do not disappear but merge with the bodies they support. 🌱

Through layered gestures on raw canvas, structure is both depicted and enacted — holding each form in delicate balance between reliance and transformation. 🖼️

We warmly invite you to join us this evening.

Echoing the proposition that humans are continuously extended and reshaped by their environments and technologies, Doe reflects on a contemporary condition of reliance and quiet transformation. 🖼️

In The Raft, organic forms are held in delicate balance, poised between survival and suspension, standing upon their own temporary grounds.🌱
