“In Loving Memory of Prof. Lee Hon-ching”
This exhibition is drawn from the significant donation of the late Professor Lee Hon-ching (1938–2025), Honorary Fellow of CUHK. The exhibition pays tribute to Professor Lee’s lifelong commitment to arts and culture at the University and underscores his enduring wish that Chinese art be preserved, studied, and shared with the wider community.
Professor Lee was a dedicated patron of CUHK arts initiatives through the Hop Wai Art and Cultural Development Fund, supporting United College, Chung Chi College, and Wu Yee Sun College in advancing the Hop Wai Arts and Culture Programme. The programme has brought exhibitions by leading artists to the CUHK campus annually and offered hands-on workshops for staff and
students, fostering artistic exchange on and beyond campus. Professor Lee also held a special affinity with the Art Museum and, in 2013, generously donated more than 160 works of modern Chinese calligraphy and painting, strengthening the museum’s collection of modern Chinese art.
In July 2026, the Art Museum will again showcase works from Professor Lee’s collection — assembled through gifts from fellow artists and careful acquisitions, and used by Professor Lee as an important teaching resource for inspiring students in printmaking, painting, and sculpture. Featured artists include Qi Baishi, Pu Xinyu, Wu Hufan, Huang Miaozi, Li Keran, Song Wenzhi, Fu Ershi, Zhou Sicong, Wang Mingming, Song Yulin, and others, alongside a recent gift of work by Liu Guosong. The exhibition is organised into four thematic units — The Concepts of Ink and Colour, The Power of Line, The Use of Space, and Reminders of Chinese Arts — tracing Professor Lee’s artistic and scholarly path while commemorating his profound support for CUHK and the Art Museum.
Exhibition period: 3 July 2026 – 12 January 2027
Venue: Gallery III, Art Museum, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
