Carrie Yamaoka at Hamburger Kunsthalle, on view now till January 10, 2027.

The Hamburger Kunsthalle presented the first solo exhibition in Germany devoted to the artist Carrie Yamaoka (b. 1957). The occasion for the show in the atrium of the Galerie der Gegenwart is the awarding of the Maria Lassnig Prize to the New York-based, multidisciplinary artist. Yamaoka’s interest in mutable materials and surfaces has given rise to works that often combine photography with text panels and reflective image supports. Chemical processes and fleeting transformations also play an important role in her work as she investigates the possibilities available for recording and documentation. Sometimes the artist revisits her earlier works after a few years and alters them, thus challenging the standard chronological development of an artistic oeuvre. The mirror-like surfaces of works that oscillate between painting, photography and sculpture cause space, light and viewers to intermingle in constantly changing perspectives and manifestations.

Tromarama's 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘙𝘰𝘰𝘮 is now on view at Counterpublic 2026: 𝘊𝘰𝘺𝘰𝘵𝘦 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦.

𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘙𝘰𝘰𝘮 is an installation built from furniture combined with glass bottles used as sound instruments and integrated with AI systems. These components are connected through a responsive lighting system activated in cycles of sound and silence, illumination and pause. The installation is linked to an app that generates phrases and verses, functioning as a large-scale karaoke system. Visitors are invited to participate directly, making meaning through music, lyrics, movement, and dance. The work transforms the exhibition space into a temporary stage. Here, the group creates an environment in which memory, play, automation, and performance meet, inviting audiences to consider how creativity is shaped by human and nonhuman systems.

Kiang Malingue is pleased to present a two-person exhibition of new works by Yang Chi-Chuan and Faye Wei Wei at Art Collaboration Kyoto 2026. Marking the Japanese debut for both artists, the presentation highlights their distinct sculptural and painterly practices, tracing subtle affinities with Japanese aesthetic traditions, natural history, and spatial poetry.

Yang Chi-Chuan (b. 1985, based in Taipei) is known for an evocative practice that explores connections between individuals, places, objects, and transient events. Yang trained as a sculptor in Taipei and Paris; for two decades her multidisciplinary practice—drawings, installations, sound pieces—has turned personal narrative inside out, inviting viewers to rediscover overlooked details within everyday life. Sound runs through this practice as much as form: her installations pair sculpture with the artist's own murmured narration and recorded voices, so that personal memory is heard as much as seen.

Faye Wei Wei (b. 1994, based in New York) creates luminous, mythic canvases that inhabit the space between painterly gesture, poetic imagery, and romantic narrative. Merging classical European figurative traditions with East Asian visual culture, her practice centres on what she terms an “infection of affection”—a heightened sensibility towards beauty, memory, and emotional longing. Through fluid, expressive mark-making, delicate impasto lattices, and vibrant material experimentations, Wei Wei transforms the canvas into a living skin where the imaginary becomes tangible.

Brook Hsu is featured at the Boros Collection now, 𝘉𝘜𝘕𝘒𝘌𝘙 𝘉𝘌𝘙𝘓𝘐𝘕 #5.

The Boros Collection is a private collection of contemporary art owned by Karen and Christian Boros in Berlin. Since 2008, it has been housed in a former WWII bunker in Berlin-Mitte. The collection is presented in regularly changing presentations featuring international artists, often at pivotal moments in their artistic development. Central to the collection is the close collaboration with artists and galleries, as well as the presentation of groups of works that provide insight into artistic processes and developments.

In 1967 and 1969, Cho Yong-Ik served as the Korean commissioner for the fifth and sixth Biennales de Paris, overseeing the selection of participating young Korean artists and shaping what would be presented internationally as “Korean art.” Organized through national sections and devoted to a younger generation of artists, largely in their twenties and thirties, the Biennale functioned as more than an exhibition. It became a diplomatic platform, if not a strategic opportunity, through which postcolonial and newly established nations—including Korea—could project their cultural modernity within the emerging international order of the Cold War.

Open now at Kiang Malingue New York, 𝘊𝘩𝘰 𝘠𝘰𝘯𝘨-𝘐𝘬: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘐, the first solo exhibition of Cho Yong-Ik at the gallery’s New York Space.

Korean artists came to encounter a widening range of images and visual languages circulating across Europe and North America—notably American Expressionism, French Informel, hard-edge painting, color-field abstraction, and Op art among others—through imported publications and a growing circuit of international exhibitions. Movements that had unfolded across distinct geographies and over several decades of Western art history were thus compressed into a remarkably short period of reception in Korea. Entering a postwar environment transformed by rapid industrialization and urbanization, with modern architecture and mass-reproduced imagery, these visual languages acquired new meanings and formal possibilities. Cho, together with his peers, actively experimented with, translated, and reinterpreted them, exploring how cultural difference could be articulated within a shared modernist vocabulary.

We are pleased to share a new work by Ho Tzu Nyen launching a collaboration as part of the Hyundai Translocal Series, between the New Museum (New Museum) in New York, USA and the Ulsan Art Museum (울산시립미술관 UAM) in Ulsan, Korea.

This new commission marks the opening of “Hyundai Translocal Series: Ho Tzu Nyen,” the first exhibition in a three-year collaboration between two institutions at the forefront of art and technology. Starting September 24, Ho’s 𝘗 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘗𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳: 𝘜𝘱 𝘋𝘰𝘸𝘯 (2026) will take over the screens inside the New Museum’s Bowery-facing elevators. When visitors press the floor buttons, a life-sized figure appears and delivers messages, mantras, and riddles on the nature of power. Generative AI produces new images and interactions at every press of a button.

Parallel work for "Hyundai Tranlsocal Series: Ho Tzu Nyen" will anchor a second presentation opening at Ulsan Art Museum in October. Together, the two institutions present their respective cities as distinct yet interconnected sites of emergent global currents.

Opening tonight at Kiang Malingue New York, 𝘊𝘩𝘰 𝘠𝘰𝘯𝘨-𝘐𝘬: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘐, the first solo exhibition of Cho Yong-Ik at the gallery’s New York Space.

In November 1959, 𝘏𝘺𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘪 𝘔𝘪𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘨𝘢 𝘏𝘺𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘦 (Contemporary Artists Association), issued its first manifesto on the occasion of the group’s fifth exhibition. Formed by young Korean painters, the group challenged the academic conventions and institutional authority of 𝘎𝘶𝘬𝘫𝘦𝘰𝘯, the state-sponsored National Art Exhibition, which then was the principal avenue for artistic recognition. The manifesto declared: “Casting off every rationalist order, we affirm the desire for life and resolve to begin the world anew from the irreducible ‘I’.” Cho, then twenty-five, was among the participating artists.

The exhibition traces a path from early figurative works through the vivid geometric abstractions of the 1960s and the iterative marks that came to define Cho’s work from the 1970s onward, extending to paintings from his final years. Together, these works bring the breadth of his six-decade practice into view.

This exhibition, the first comprehensive survey of Tiffany Chung’s career, showcases the intricately drawn or embroidered maps that she is best known for alongside her sculptures, videos, performances, and installations. Bringing together traces, fragments, and voices that have been silenced, her art questions not only how history is told but also who tells that history, who belongs within it, and who and what are excluded. Ultimately, Chung utilizes this reckoning with history to powerfully inform our future actions.
