Biggest thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth at Frieze Seoul!!

The level of curiosity in Seoul is unlike anything we’ve experienced. We’ve never handed out so many exhibition sheets—we literally had to print fresh stacks every day just to keep up. It really made the week so engaging and fun for our team 🤍🩶🖤

Ivačković’s 1960s paintings are defined by monochromatic works on paper that reflect a highly expressive, rhythmic and improvisational process. He placed large sheets of paper on the studio floor and moved across them, so that the physical traces of his body, including shoe imprints (see image 3), became part of the composition itself.

NOW ON VIEW: Djordje Ivačković at Frieze Seoul

A vital figure associated with French Lyrical Abstraction, Ivačković’s historical significance is underscored by five works held in the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

With the recent opening of the Centre Pompidou Hanwha in Seoul, this presentation offers a timely overview of the milestone years that solidified Ivačković’s position within the canon of twentieth-century European abstraction

For Frieze Seoul 2026 (Frieze), Double Q is proud to present a solo booth of the late Djordje Ivačković, featuring a selection of works spanning three decades of his career.

An avant-garde jazz pianist before becoming an artist, Ivačković always painted while listening to jazz. French art critic Jean-Jacques Lévêque compared his brushstrokes to jazz legend Thelonious Monk playing the piano. In “4 III 77,” you can see this in the dark marks along the bottom, which line up like keys struck quickly across a keyboard 🎹

Find us next week in the Spotlight section (Booth S2) from 2 to 5 September!

Born in Serbia, Djordje Ivačković graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade in 1955 while actively performing as an avant-garde jazz musician. Combining the rational approach of an architect with the restless mind of a jazz artist, Ivačković created a unique symbiosis of analytical yet expressive abstraction.

After moving to Paris in 1962, Ivačković became one of the most internationally recognized abstract painters working in France during the 1970s. French art historian Jean-Luc Chalumeau placed him alongside Joan Mitchell and Simon Hantaï as one of only three non-French artists who made a fundamental contribution to post-war abstract painting in France.

We are proud to be participating in Frieze Seoul (Frieze) for the first time!

Find us next month in the 𝘚𝘱𝘰𝘵𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 section at Frieze Seoul for a solo presentation dedicated to the late French-Serbian painter Djordje Ivačković (1930–2012), whose historical significance is underscored by five works in the Centre Pompidou’s permanent collection.

Coinciding with the recent opening of the Centre Pompidou Hanwha in Seoul, our booth offers a timely survey across the 1960s, 70s, and early 80s, mapping his material and conceptual trajectory from expressive, jazz-inflected works to his iconic square architectural fields.

𝘚𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘺 by Tomo Campbell has come to an end. So many of our visitors were captivated by the centrepiece that evokes the traditional frieze format, which is rooted in classical architecture and presents a continuous narrative.

Thank you to everyone who visited, here are some of our favourite photos from the exhibition. Enjoy the rest of your summer, we’ve got some exciting announcements coming soon!
