Bamboo was one of the first subjects Tongson learned, and he returned to it throughout his career. Tongson painted the 1990s piece with crisp and controlled brushstrokes, whereas he created the 2012 work only with his fingers and fingernails in a more unrestrained manner. These two works show his capacity to bridge classical, modern, and contemporary ink styles.

竹是唐家偉最早學習的題材之一，他亦在整個藝術生涯中反覆創作。1990年代的作品以清晰而克制的筆觸繪成，而2012年的作品則僅以手指和指甲完成，風格更為奔放。這兩幅作品展現了他連接古典、現代與當代水墨風格的能力。

Last Thursday, we gathered in the Gallery for a special violin recital by 𝐀𝐥𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐮𝐧𝐠, honouring two artistic visionaries: 𝐘𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐢 𝐊𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐚 and 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐨𝐧.

Following Kusama’s recent passing, this intimate performance celebrated their creative legacies while shining a light on mental health awareness. Through music, Alston created a space for reflection, connection, and remembrance.

Asia Society Hong Kong Center mourns the loss of 𝐌𝐫. 𝐓𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐞-𝐇𝐰𝐚, Hong Kong SAR’s first Chief Executive. Mr. Tung was a great supporter and friend of Asia Society Hong Kong Center. We had the honour of hosting him as our special guest at the February 2012 opening of our Center in Admiralty.

His legacy of service and dedication to bridging communities will continue to inspire our mission for years to come.

Last night, we were delighted to welcome 𝐉𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐠, The Wall Street Journal’s China bureau chief, for a compelling conversation on his new book, 𝙆𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝙈𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙖𝙝: 𝙆𝙞𝙢 𝙄𝙡 𝙎𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙍𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙉𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙆𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙖’𝙨 𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝘾𝙪𝙡𝙩.

In dialogue with 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐝 𝐒. 𝐋𝐞𝐞, Cheng explored how Kim Il Sung’s Presbyterian upbringing in Pyongyang – once known as the “Jerusalem of the East” – shaped the messianic cult that has now endured across three generations. As Cheng argues, the Kim dynasty’s grip on its people is just as vital to understanding North Korea as its nuclear arsenal.

In the late 1960s, with the Sino-Soviet split reshaping global politics, Taipei found itself in a diplomatic deadlock. The response? Clandestine contacts across the Iron Curtain with Moscow. Under the radar, with aliases, coded telegrams, and secret rendezvous in Vienna and Rome.

Historian 𝐒𝐡𝐚 𝐐𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐪𝐢𝐧𝐠’s new book, 𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙨, digs into this overlooked chapter, drawing from diaries, national archives, and declassified materials. 🔍 一段被遺忘的冷戰故事：台北與莫斯科的秘密接觸

上世紀六十年代末，中蘇決裂、中美轉向，奉行「反共抗俄」的台灣當局陷入外交困局。面對鐵幕另一側的莫斯科，台北竟展開了秘密接觸——化名、密電、維也納與羅馬的跨國會晤，串起一段塵封多年的外交暗線。

歷史學者沙青青在新作《不可能的盟友》中，翻閱兩蔣日記、美國國家檔案與國史館史料，重新梳理這場最終未能成局的台北—莫斯科接觸。為何兩者未能成為盟友？這段「不可能的」關係，又為我們理解冷戰東亞提供了甚麽線索？
