The closing weekend of 𝘏𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘏𝘴𝘪𝘦𝘯: 𝘉𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥𝘴 is almost here. To mark the occasion, we invite you to join us for the launch of the exhibition catalogue, co-published by Asia Society Hong Kong Center and Asia Society Texas.

This program offers a comprehensive look at Hung Hsien's life, creative dialogue, and enduring legacy.

𝐃𝐫. 𝐑𝐚𝐲𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐠 from CUHK will open the discussion by contextualizing Hong Kong's vibrant New Ink Movement of the 1960s and 70s. Curator 𝐃𝐫. 𝐓𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬 will then trace Hung Hsien's personal journey and her ties to Taiwan's seminal Fifth Moon Group, illuminating the artistic circles she navigated while living and teaching in Hong Kong during the late 70s and early 80s.

Afterward, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐎𝐰𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐲 (Nancy C. Allen Curator and Director of Exhibitions at Asia Society Texas) will join the speakers for a panel discussion exploring the dynamic history and evolving future of modern and contemporary ink art.

適逢展覽圓滿落幕，我們誠邀你參與展覽圖錄發布會。圖錄由亞洲協會香港中心與亞洲協會德州中心共同出版。

本次活動將帶領觀眾全面回顧洪嫻的生命歷程、創作對話與深遠影響。

活動將由香港中文大學文物館副館長鄧民亮博士揭開序幕，梳理香港於 1960 至 70 年代蓬勃發展的新水墨運動。策展人 龐惠英博士 (𝗗𝗿. 𝗧𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗪𝗮𝗶-𝗬𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀) 其後將分享洪嫻的個人歷程，以及她與台灣重要藝術團體「五月畫會」的淵源，並呈現她於 1970 年代末至 80 年代初在香港生活及任教期間，與本地藝術圈的交流軌跡。

亞洲協會德州中心 Nancy C. Allen 策展人兼展覽總監 Owen Duffy 博士亦將加入對談，與講者共同探討現代及當代水墨藝術豐富多變的發展歷程，以及持續演進的未來。

Dr. Tiffany Wai-ying Beres is a Southern California–based curator, educator, and art historian specializing in modern and contemporary Chinese art. She has curated over 30 exhibitions at institutions worldwide, including the China Institute in New York, HKU Museum and Art Gallery, and Today Art Museum in Beijing.

《洪嫻：乾坤之間》 —— 為什麼這場展覽如此獨特？我們一起聽聽本展覽的客座策展人龐惠英博士怎麼說。

龐惠英博士 (𝗗𝗿. 𝗧𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗪𝗮𝗶-𝗬𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀) 是一位南加州的策展人、教育家和藝術史學家，專攻中國現當代藝術。她曾在世界各地的機構策劃30多場展覽，包括紐約華美協進社、香港大學美術博物館和北京今日美術館。

On May 28, Asia Society HK's Visiting Curatorial Fellow 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐦𝐲𝐭𝐡 hosted their talk "From Hampton Court to Punch Magazine: How the Word 'Cartoon' Got its Modern Meaning".

Peter's talk covered decades of art history, from Raphael's masterworks to The New Yorker's daily cartoons. Peter explained their own theories of the birth of "cartoon" as a satirical term.

𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐦𝐲𝐭𝐡 is based at the Ohio State University, pursuing a PhD in the History of Art with a focus on the intellectual lineage of cartooning. They have trained in the practice of cartooning at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Now in her 90s, ink painter Hung Hsien is considered a pioneering figure in global modernism — born in Yangzhou, trained in Taiwan, and transformed in the U.S. In the mid-1960s, she invented a modern ink language all her own, merging Chinese technical mastery with the expressive energy of Western abstraction. She also taught at CUHK in the late 1970s, leaving her mark on yet another generation.
