【 藝術貨櫃啟航:一個貨櫃,不只運載貨物,更連繫香港與世界 🎨 Project Art Container: A shipping container carries more than cargo—it connects Hong Kong to the world】

🌍 Did you know? Around 80% of global trade is transported by sea.
🍫 Chocolate?
⛽ Fuel?
🐬 Animals?

From everyday electronics, clothing to food, energy, and medical supplies, most of the items we use have travelled across oceans and through various ports before reaching us.
Ports and maritime networks therefore serve as the essential foundation for sustaining global economic and operations.

⚓ Hong Kong: From port city to global maritime hub
Since the 19th century, Hong Kong has grown into one of Asia’s most important ports, supported by its deep natural harbour and strategic location.
Today, Hong Kong continues to play a key role in global maritime networks:
➡️The Super Connector: Leveraging the advantages of "One Country, Two Systems" and the common law, Hong Kong connects the Chinese Mainland with the world.
➡️Heart of Asia-Pacific Shipping Lanes: Located at the heart of Asia and perched on the doorstep of the Pearl River Delta, Hong Kong serves as a vital node connecting global ports in the global supply chain.
➡️The Premium Maritime Brain: A high value-added maritime services centre covering shipping finance, maritime law, marine insurance, and ship management
👉 Hong Kong is not only a port—it is a global maritime coordination and services hub.

🌆 Maritime and everyday life
Maritime history is deeply embedded in Hong Kong’s identity:
➡️Place names like Yau Ma Tei and Hung Hom originated from port activities
➡️Ferries once formed the backbone of cross-harbour transport—and remain iconic today
➡️Port development has shaped the city’s economic growth and global connections
Understanding maritime is, in many ways, understanding Hong Kong itself.
🚢 The future: green and smart maritime development
Hong Kong is actively transforming towards sustainable and innovative maritime development:
🌱 Green maritime: Developing Hong Kong into a green maritime fuel bunkering centre, thereby supporting the green transformation of the maritime industry.
💡 Smart port: The official launch of Port Community System (PCS) in 2026 marks a major milestone in the digitalisation of port logistics
Smart terminals: Terminals have integrated the use of automation technologies, including electric vehicles and smart monitoring systems
👉 These developments are shaping Hong Kong into a future-ready green and smart maritime hub.

🎨 Starting from a Container: Connecting Ideas to the World
Through Project Art Container, we invite you to explore:
📦 What stories a container carries
🌍 Where it comes from and where it goes
🏙️ How it connects Hong Kong with the world

Through the “One Container One Story” Drawing Competition, selected artworks may even be transformed into real shipping containers travelling across global routes—bringing Hong Kong’s stories to the world.

🐟 🌟 Father’s Day: Great dad from the oceans】

Happy Father’s Day! 🌟 Today, let’s dive into the blue and meet a true "Super Dad" of the underwater world: the Cardinalfish!

For some cardinalfish species, after a female releases eggs, the male protects the eggs by storing them in his mouth until hatching. This behaviour is known as mouthbrooding. In some cardinalfishes, males spend approximately 80% of his breeding season mouthbrooding. Each brood typically takes 5-17 days to hatch. Because his mouth is full, the father often goes without food, becoming weaker as the incubation progresses. Sacrificing his own health for his children: what a noble father! 💪💪💪

Make today a unique opportunity to bond with your dad and learn more about Hong Kong's oceans at the HK Maritime Museum! 🐟💙

🦪✨Magical Transformation of Oyster Shells! 】

To satisfy our appetite for oysters, how far do you think humans go in a single day? Globally, around 200 million oysters, weighing 17,000 tons, are harvested for food every day! However, only 15% (about 2,550 tons) among the harvested oyster is edible; the remaining 14,450 tons of oyster shells weigh as much as 51 fully loaded Airbus A350 aircraft! ✈️

With such a staggering amount of oyster shells, are they destined to be treated as mere waste and dumped into landfills? 🗑️

Absolutely not! Oyster shells can actually be transformed into a nature-based solution for improving artificial coastlines, enhancing biodiversity and ecological value! 🦪✨

Curious to know how these oyster shells undergo such a magical transformation? The Hong Kong Maritime Museum is delighted to collaborate with Dr. Chi Chiu LO from the Hong Kong Metropolitan University and his team to share insights on the wise use of oyster shells and the findings from their Eco- shoreline experiments. Participants can also build a home for marine life using oyster shells with your own hands during the workshop.

【直擊 18 世紀的「高溫工作現場」!🌡️A Sneak Peek into an 18th-Century "High-Temperature Workplace"!】

The recent weather in Hong Kong has been absolutely suffocating! But if you take a look at this late 18th-century painting, you might feel that our modern-day heatwaves are nothing in comparison. 🥵

In the painting, craftsmen are seen inspecting porcelain wares next to an open stove. To working alongside the roaring flames, everyone was too hot to care about etiquette, going completely shirtless to brave the heat. In an era without air conditioning or electric fans, these artisans relied solely on sheer endurance to craft piece after piece of exquisite artwork. After seeing this painting, does sitting in an air-conditioned room suddenly feel like pure bliss?
