ALEXANDROS LAIOS

In One Day I Saw the Sun Set Forty-Three Times, continues his long-standing exploration of light, approaching the sun not as a symbol but as a material, psychological, and existential force.

Through a process that moves from collage on slide film to digital image-making, and from there to glass and sculptural constructions made from industrial awning materials, Laios creates works in which overexposure, distortion, and trace become essential visual components. His images appear suspended between emergence and dissolution, permanence and disappearance.

Perforated surfaces, luminous afterimages, and references to the Mediterranean landscape, its intense light, and the gradual erosion of matter, converge to create a world in constant transformation. Within it, the sun is revealed not only as a source of life and illumination, but also as a relentless force capable of consuming, altering, and reshaping everything it touches. Its presence is inscribed upon bodies, materials, and memory alike, leaving behind traces that persist long after the light itself has faded.

VIMA art fair .artfair 14–17 May came to a close.

Thank you to this great team of people .ed who managed to create something that felt generous, alive and genuinely supportive towards the galleries and artists participating. In a time when so many things in the art world can feel rushed or transactional, VIMA was built with real care, persistence and belief. We truly felt the effort behind every detail and the sincere desire for the galleries to connect, present, sell and grow.

What makes VIMA so special is not only the presentations, but also its atmosphere: open, relaxed, vibrant and human. A fair where people actually spend time with the works, with conversations unfolding naturally between indoors and outdoors, next to the sea.

Set by the water in Limassol, VIMA feels fresh, fun and welcoming, while still maintaining a strong curatorial identity with its collaboration with curators like . One of those rare art fairs where art, architecture, talks and live programming come together effortlessly.

If you haven’t visited yet, you absolutely should. Support the galleries, discover remarkable artists, meet wonderful people and experience a different kind of art fair — one that doesn’t feel rushed but connected to the city and to the joy of being around people and art you love.

Congratulations to everyone behind it. ❤️

A glimpse from our booth with works by Elina Ioannou, Chrysanthi Koumianaki, Manolis D.Lemos, Lefteris Tapas, Alexis Vasilikos, Emmanouil Bitsakis and Konstantinos Ladianos.

Les Amandiers presented .artfair booth A10

In the series Les Amandiers, Lefteris Tapas draws inspiration from the almond trees of Albert Camus — and particularly from his reflections on light, the Mediterranean, and life’s resistance against destruction.

The works originate from a place the artist has visited daily for many years, observing the seasons through the landscape’s constant transformations.

In The Almond Trees, Camus writes that even in the harshest winter, almond trees are the first to bloom — as a form of silent persistence and renewal. Their blossoming is not triumphant; it is fragile yet inevitable.

Amid crisis or historical instability, Lefteris Tapas’ series Les Amandiers conveys a message of hope and speaks of the possibility of light and continuity even in the darkest of times.
